Big Call Vaults Herm into Chip Lead

[user269680] • Level 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

We caught the action with a board of {8-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Chou Chou bet 90,000. Mark Herm made the call and the {2-Hearts} fell on the river. Chou moved all in for 256,000 and Herm went into the tank. Herm thought for several minutes, virtually convincing himself that Chou had ace-king. He couldn't make the laydown, however and eventually made the call. "Five high," said Chou, tabling {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}.

Herm turned over {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} and left Chou with just 5,000 in chips.

Watson Busts Davie

YorkshirePud • Level 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

Mike Watson raised to 16,000 on the button and was facing an all-in bet of 86,000 from Tim Davie in the big blind. A few calculations later, Watson called.

Watson: {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Davie: {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

Davie's ace-high remained the best hand on the {6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} board, but a {Q-Clubs} on the river won the hand for Watson and busted Davie.

Herm's Five-Bet Gets Through

[user269680] • Level 18: 3,000-6,000, 500 ante

Chou Chou opened to 13,000 from the hijack and Anton Smirnov reraised to 30,000 from the button. Felix Trau made it four to go with a raise to 65,000 from the small blind. Mark Herm thought for a couple of minutes, got some counts and finally slid out a five-bet to 106,000 from the big blind.

Action folded back around to Trau who folded. Herm turned over the {3-Hearts} as he reached in to drag the pot.

Jaffee's Pair Gets Counterfeited; Herm Doubles

YorkshirePud • Level 18: 3,000-6,000, 500 ante

Mark Herm raised to 12,500 from under-the-gun and Jared Jaffee three-bet to 28,000 from the button. The action folded Back to Herm, who mulled over his options for around 90-seconds. Herm finally settled on an all-in bet of 120,000. Jaffee took a look at his cards and called.

Jaffee: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Herm: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Another coinflip would determine the fate of a tournament poker player. The {J-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} flop kept Jaffee's nines ahead, but gave Herm plenty of outs to win. The {2-Spades} turn was a complete blank, but the {J-Diamonds} on the river double paired the board and counterfeited Jaffee's nines, leaving Herm to win the large pot by virtue of his ace kicker.
