Day 2 Bagged Up

[user46392]
James Mackey - chip daddy
James Mackey - chip daddy

It's been another long day in the Amazon Room, but not quite as much poker has been played as we hoped. We were scheduled to play 10 levels today, but owing to a late start and a brief hiatus when the payout computer went a bit mad, it's 3am and we've only got through nine full levels.

Nevertheless, we've done rather well in terms of decimating the field. We came back today with a daunting 502 players, and are now down to just 75 or so. Leading the field is James Mackey, On an astounding 1,011,000 - that'll be around 126 big blinds when play resumes tomorrow - Mackey is looking in pretty good shape to bag himself his second bracelet.

This bracelet is not looking likely to be awarded tomorrow though - like our friends over in the PLO Championship, this tournament is almost guaranteed to run to four days at this point. Still, the blinds are getting big and anything can happen. Either way, we will be back in the Amazon Room at 3pm tomorrow, when we will be playing at least down to a final table. See you then.

Mackey's Million

[user140344]

We caught the action on the flop in this hand that James Mackey was involved in. The flop read {k-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and from under the gun, Mackey made it 18,000. His opponent in the cutoff reraised to 42,000 and Mackey made the call.

The {j-Clubs} fell on the turn and Mackey check-called the 46,500 bet of his opponent.

On the {5-Diamonds} river, Mackey checked once more, as did his opponent.

Mackey tabled {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for trips and has surpassed the one million mark in chips.

Slip on the Court

[user140344]

From the cutoff, Court Harrington opened for 13,500. The player in the big blind made the call and the flop came down {a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. Both players checked to the {7-Diamonds} river. The player in the big blind made it 15,500 and Harrington made the call.

The {6-Spades} fell on the river and both players checked again. When Harrington saw the {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} of his opponent, he flicked his cards into the muck. Harrington is sitting on 110,000.

Yep for Jeppsson

[user46392]

Christian Jeppsson is now above the half million mark after getting somewhat lucky and knocking out another relatively big stack.

The soon-to-be-busted unfortunate opened for 17,000 on the button and Jeppsson called in the small blind. Dan Shak called in the big blind as well, and they saw a flop.

Flop: {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Jeppsson bet out 28,000 and Shak folded; the button however raised to 60,000. Jeppsson went all in, his opponent called all in for 228,000 total, and they were on their backs.

Button gent: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for top pair, top kicker
Jeppsson: a rather speculative {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Turn: {9-Spades} - no help there

River: here's some help -{k-Clubs}

The unfortunate gent on the button got nothing but a payout slip. Jeppsson meanwhile rivered his way to big stack status.

Don't Mess with the Big Stack

[user140344]

James Mackey got to stacking quite a few more chips when he and an opponent got all the chips in the middle preflop. Obviously Mackey's tournament life wasn't at risk. His opponent however had committed his remaining 220,000 with {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Mackey showed {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

The board brought no help to the at risk player. It came down {4-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. Mackey is the monster chipleader now with 850,000.

Jamming Through the Night

[user140344]

It was all in preflop for Jon Turner and his opponent. Turner was ahead and not at risk with his {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} against his opponent who tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {j-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and Turner stacked his chips to 300,000 while his opponent hit the rail.
