The field has been set for Day 2 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event after Day 1c pulled together 631 total entries, bringing the overall total up to 1,341.

Day 1c was the largest field of the three starting flights and by the end of the night, it was Illinois native Aaron Massey who put the most chips in a bag (608,000). Massey was accumulating chips throughout the tournament but he catapulted into the top spot at the end of the night.

Others to bag large in Day 1c were Stefan Fabian (516,000), Levy Tzur (498,000), Gediminas Uselis (468,000), and Sundiata DeVore (417,000).

Just below them are three more formidable opponents in Brock Wilson (394,000), Minnesota's Ian Matakis (326,000), and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Barry Shulman (216,00).

Others were not as fortunate. Camille Brown, Shannon Shorr, MSPT Season 10 Player of the Year Mike Shin, Cherish Andrews, and Alex Foxen were just a few players who came short.

The surviving players will be returning Thursday's for Day 2’s 11 a.m. start time, and 135 of them will make it into the money to earn a first-level payout of $3,440, though players are sure to have their eyes set on the first-place prize of $325,428.

PokerNews will be back on hand for tomorrow for Day 2, so make sure to come back and see who makes it through to the final day!

Ventura Catches Lady Luck From the Big Blind

Diego Ventura
Diego Ventura

There was three-way action after a {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop with roughly 70,000 in the middle and a series of raises saw Diego Ventura call off his 164,000 stack after the player under the gun four-bet jammed while the button player folded.

Diego Ventura: {a-Spades}{8-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Ventura was ahead after flopping trip eights but the {q-Diamonds} turn gave his opponent the nut flush.

Just when Ventura lost hope, the dealer dropped another lady {q-Spades} on the river, double pairing the board and giving Ventura a full house to double-up.

A player from middle position open-jammed and Gediminas Uselis called from the button.

Opponent: {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}
Gediminas Uselis: {a-Diamonds}{7-Spades}

Uselis had his opponent dominated but the {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop came paired bringing possible chop outs.

The turn came the {7-Clubs}, pairing Uselis and the {j-Spades} river sent his opponent packing.

Massey Soars to the Top

Aaron Massey
Aaron Massey

Action folded to the button player who raised to 10,000 only to have Aaron Massey three-bet bet to 44,000 from the big blind.

Massey's opponent thought for a moment then four-bet all in for roughly 170,000 and was snap-called.

Opponent: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Aaron Massey: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Massey had his opponent dominated and the {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} runout eliminated them from the tournament while Massey climbs to the top of the chip counts in the last level of the evening.
