Charlie Godwin grinded for her tournament life on Day 3 of the Grand Prix UK Main Event, but it was not to be

Charlie Godwin has just been eliminated in 23rd place after a horrible run-out effectively ended her hopes.
The key blow to Godwin’s stack took place during a blind on blind confrontation with Ronan Sweeney when Godwin set her opponent all in, after the action folded to her in the small blind.

After some thought Sweeney called off his remaining 3.7m chips holding {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, but Godwin had him pipped by one with her {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

A flop of {J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} didn’t change anything and a chop looked unlikely.

The {K-Hearts} turn didn’t bring any split pot opportunities but the {8-Hearts} river allowed Sweeney to scoop the pot.

Godwin would get her remaining three big blinds in with {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} but find herself in rough shape versus the {A-Spades}{J-Spades} held by Dillon Scanlan.

Despite turning a flush draw on the {5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} board the {3-Clubs} river brought no salvation for Godwin. Worse still was that just one more place up the ladder would have meant an extra £1,000, with everyone now guaranteed £5,500 instead of the £4,500 Godwin takes home.
