Break Time; 19 Remain

Shamus • Level 24: 12,000-24,000, 3,000 ante

Just two more players were eliminated during Level 24, meaning 19 are left. They're now taking their second 15-minute break of the day.

River Saves Hakim?

Homer • Level 24: 12,000-24,000, 3,000 ante

With the board reading {9-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, Noel Gaens checked and Jeffrey Hakim bet 189,000. Remi Castaignon flat-called and so did Gaens, suddenly this pot was looking huge.

The {A-Clubs} on the river looked like it would mean more action but instead it was checked around. Gaens showed {K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a missed flush draw, Hakim's {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} had been counterfeited on the river but he could probably breathe a sigh of relief as Castaignon showed {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for the turned straight and scooped the pot.

Nine-Nine Equals Double for Eilert Eilertsen

Shamus • Level 24: 12,000-24,000, 3,000 ante

Not too long after suffering that setback versus Jeffrey Hakim, Eilert Eilertsen was reraising all in from the small blind over a 50,000 open by Remi Castaignon from under the gun. Castaignon didn't think too long before calling, and Eilertsen was at risk.

Castaignon showed {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} while Eilertsen had {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}, and after the community cards rolled out {8-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{A-Spades}{3-Hearts} Eilertsen had doubled back.

Hakim Doubles Through Eilertsen

Jeffrey Hakim calls Eilert Eilertsen's all-in reraise
Jeffrey Hakim calls Eilert Eilertsen's all-in reraise

Eilert Eilertsen opened for 51,000 from the cutoff, then Jeffrey Hakim reraised to 125,000 from the small blind. As soon as Remi Castaignon let go of his hand in the big blind, Eilertsen set out a column of red chips with a thud while announcing he was all in. Hakim thought a while, as Eilertsen had him well covered and to call would mean risking his last chips. Finally he called, and the players tabled their cards:

Hakim: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Eilertsen: {A-Spades}{J-Spades}

The flop arrived {Q-Spades}{6-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}, and causing Eilertsen to hang his head downward disappointedly. The turn was the {9-Clubs}, making the {6-Hearts} river no matter, and Hakim earned a big double up.

Hugo Pingray Eliminated in 21st Place (€23,000)

Hugo Pingray

Hugo Pingray raised to 50,000 from middle position and Eilert Eilertsen three-bet to 101,000 in the next seat. Remi Castaignon then cold four-bet to 275,000 in the big blind. Pingray thought for about a minute and moved all in, Eilertsen got out of the way and Castaignon said, "How much? A million? I call."

Pingray: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}
Castaignon: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

The flop {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} was good for Pingray but the {K-Clubs} came on the turn to an audible from the tournament room. The {J-Clubs} changed nothing and now Castaignon has about one sixth of the remaining chips with 20 players left.

Gaens Doubles Through Leader Castaignon

Shamus • Level 24: 12,000-24,000, 3,000 ante
Noel Gaens

Remi Castaignon had a great first hour today on Day 5 to push up over 3.3 million and into the chip lead. But he's just given a few back to Noel Gaens after the latter scored a double up through the Frenchman.

The hand began with Castaignon raising to 50,000 from middle position, then watching Gaens push all in for 675,000 from a couple of seats over. It folded back to Castaignon who smiled at Gaens as he thought through his decision, clearly on the fence over whether or not to call.

Finally Castaignon did, showing {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} to Gaens's {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. The flop came {4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} to give Gaens the lead in the hand, and after the {3-Clubs} turn and {6-Clubs} river Gaens picked up the pot.

The pair bumped fists after the hand. "You can afford it," said Gaens, and Remington continued to smile as he carved out the chips he owed.

Homer • Level 24: 12,000-24,000, 3,000 ante

Joe Mouawad raised to 55,000 from middle position and Franck Kalfon moved all in for 401,000 from late position. Mouawad took about three minutes and then made the call.

Mouawad: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Kalfon: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

The board came {10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{J-Hearts} and Kalfon held on to double up.
