Gaens Gets There

Shamus • Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

There was a big chip swing over on the feature table just now. The hand began with Remi Castaignon raising from the cutoff and getting two callers in Noel Gaens (small blind) and Eilert Eilertsen (big blind), the pot totaling 270,000 when the flop came {5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}.

Gaens led with a bet and Eilertsen called, and when Castaignon raised, Gaens and he ended up getting all of Gaens's chips in the middle with Eilertsen stepping aside, the pot having ballooned up over 2 million in the process.

Gaens held {6-Spades}{5-Spades} for a pair of fives with an open-ended straight draw while Castaignon had {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}. The {8-Diamonds} on the turn meant Castaignon was still in front, but the {9-Spades} on the river completed the straight for Gaens to earn him the big pot.

Gordon Huntly moved all in for his last 710,000 preflop from the cutoff. Walid Bou Habib got a count from the small blind before moving all in himself, [Removed:4] got out of the way.

Huntly: {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Habib: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The board teased Huntly on the turn but it ran out in favour of the large stack coming {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{A-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

Shamus • Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

With 350,000 in the middle and the board showing {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, Eilert Eilertsen checked from the big blind and after a pause Jeffrey Hakim checked behind from middle position.

The river then brought the {7-Spades} and a relatively quick all-in push from Eilertsen for 390,000. Hakim took a minute before acting, then finally tossed his cards away.

When Will It End?

Homer • Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

PokerStars Blog takes a look at the duration of EPT events, attempting to determine how long it will take to name a champion. Also, does France's unique betting laws, which inevitably mean bigger pots, have any impact on the speed of the tournament?

Break Time; 18 Remain

Shamus • Level 25: 15,000-30,000, 4,000 ante

Only one player hit the rail during that last 90-minute level, and so 18 players are now leaving for another 15-minute break.

Gaens Plenty Happy

Shamus • Level 25: 15,000-30,000, 4,000 ante

Jeffrey Hakim raised to 61,000 from the cutoff seat, then it folded around to Noel Gaens in the big blind. Gaens checked his cards and paused, and Hakim took the opening to speak up.

"You don't look happy about your hand," said Hakim with a grin. "I'm always happy," replied Gaens, further proving the declaration with a call of Hakim's raise.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Gaens checked, and after a pause Hakim likewise checked behind. The turn brought the {A-Clubs} and another check from Gaens, and this time Hakim bet 79,000. Gaens quickly called.

The river brought the {4-Spades} and one more check from Gaens. Hakim pushed out a bet of 200,000, and Gaens instantly declared he was all in. A count revealed his push was for 831,000.

Hakim sat back in thought, waiting about two minutes before letting his hand go. Gaens then showed his cards — {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for two pair — and collected the chips.

Habib Doubles Through Andre

Shamus • Level 25: 15,000-30,000, 4,000 ante
Walid Bou Habib
Walid Bou Habib

Walid Bou Habib has been all in prior to the flop a half-dozen times this level, but each time had failed to earn a caller. Finally he found himself all in and at risk for his last 430,000 or so with {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} against Cyril Andre's {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

The flop came {3-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} to pair Habib's ace but also provide Andre with a flush draw. The turn was the {9-Clubs} and river the {5-Hearts}, however, and Habib's hand held.

Cagey as a Caged Cage Fighter Fighting in Said Cage

Homer • Level 25: 15,000-30,000, 4,000 ante

Intriguing hand on the feature table.

Having raised preflop Joseph El Khoury check-called a bet of 75,000 on a {4-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board against Aurelien Guiglini before both checked the {7-Spades} turn. The river {A-Hearts} saw El Khoury lead out for about a quarter of the pot, 90,000 to be precise.

Guiglini looked a little unsure but made the call, El Khoury showed him {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and Guiglini flashed {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} which had been huge on the turn.
