About Run It Once
Run It Once Poker was founded by esteemed professional poker player Phil Galfond who is a high stakes cash game specialist. Galfond also founded an online poker training site with the same name.
Galfond has played tens of millions of online poker hand in his illustrious career and decided to create a poker site that had the players' best interests at the forefront of everything. The Run It Once tagline is "let's make poker better, together."
Run It Once launched in beta on Feb. 6, 2019 with a raft of special features. HUDs are banned so predatory behavior is at a minimum, all tables are anonymous, it has a unique rakeback system called Splash The Pot that returned 51% rake to the table, and much more.
Run It Once to Relaunch In US
In 2022, Run it Once, previously only available outside the US, was sold to Rush Street Interactive (RSI), a company that develops online gaming products in regulated markets. After the sale, Galfond continued to serve as a key RIO employee.
"My day-to-day role will look very similar to my previous one," Galfond told PokerNews at the time. "I'll be a brand ambassador who communicates with the poker community on behalf of Run it Once Poker, and I'll be involved in all product/feature and policy decisions."
Galfond's poker site struggled to compete against the top dogs in the industry -- PokerStars and GGPoker. As such, he made the decision at the end of 2021 to cease operations internationally and instead focus on the US where his site would have a better shot at being competitive and profitable.
Rush Street has a history of developing and launching regulated online gambling sites and sportsbooks. In 2016, RSI launched PlaySugarHouse.com, a legal internet casino and sportsbook in New Jersey. The company also offers land-based sports betting in multiple casinos in Pennsylvania and Indiana, along with multiple online poker platforms.
"Rush Street Interactive offers RIO a lot -- gaming licenses in multiple US states and other jurisdictions, large casino and sportsbook player bases, experience in building huge poker and other gaming platforms, to name a few," said Galfond.
When Will Run It Once US Launch?
As of early 2024, it appears a US launch is on the horizon. In November 2023, RSI posted two poker-related job openings for its Malta Office.
The first role is a Director of Poker Room Management position that "oversees critical aspects of the poker room including rake, policies, and game offerings while ensuring we have a healthy poker ecosystem and safe games," while the second role is a Director of Poker Marketing position to "lead our marketing efforts for our poker vertical, bringing their expertise in this area of the industry to drive the business forward."
Run It Once US Michigan
Run It Once US will likely launch in Michigan, which is home to several online poker sites including WSOP, BetMGM and PokerStars.
Michigan is part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Association alongside West Virginia, Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey.
Run It Once US New Jersey
It is also likely Run It Once US will launch in New Jersey, which is already home to the same online sites as Michigan.

Run It Once US may launch in Delaware, which was the first state to legalize online poker before several poker sites went down in December 2023.

Run It Once US could also launch launch in Pennsylvania, which home to poker sites including WSOP and PokerStars.

Run It Once US may launch in Nevada, which is home to WSOP.com.
Nevada is part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Association alongside West Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware and Michigan.

Run It Once US could also launch in West Virginia, where online poker is legal but not currently operational.

Run It Once Ontario
Run It Once may also launch it Ontario as it expands its North American market. Ontario is currently home to WSOP and PokerStars and operates in a ring-fenced market.
What Poker Games Will Be Offered On Run It Once US?
Only cash games were available on Run It Once EU at the moment, No-Limit Hold'em and Pot-Limit Omaha being the games of choice.
Hold'em cash games came in six buy-in levels, with each player having to buy in for 100 bigs blinds. The six levels were:
- €4 Buy-In: Blinds €0.02/€0.04
- €10 Buy-In: Blinds €0.05/€0.10
- €20 Buy-In: Blinds €0.10/€0.20
- €100 Buy-In: Blinds €0.50/€1
- €200 Buy-In: Blinds €1/€2
- €500 Buy-In: Blinds €2.50/€5
Pot Limit Omaha cash games were available in the following levels:
- €10 Buy-In: Blinds €0.05/€0.10
- €20 Buy-In: Blinds €0.10/€0.20

Notable Run It Once Features
When it ran in Europe, all tables at Run It Once were anonymous, meaning your identity was protected. This stops players from being targetted by more skillful players, and allows you to go blow off steam if you wish without your opponents taking notes on you for being a maniac player!
Tracking software and HUDs were banned from the EU site and replaced by Dynamic Avatars. You are assigned a random avatar a the tables and its expression changes depending on how your style has been recently. There are three expressions for aggressive and three for passive, each being tight, loose and very loose.
Players who stream their play at Run It Once on Twitch could receive up to 110% rakeback! The StreamR scheme had four tiers that increase rakeback when you climb them.

VIP Schemes
Run It Once EU did not offer a VIP scheme as such, instead it returned 51 percent of the rake taken back to the players via something it called "Splash The Pot".
Splash The Pot used Run It Once's Random Number Generator (RNG) to randomly select a hand to be "splashed". The RNG then selected a reward of up to 1,000 big blinds that are added, or splashed, into the pot as an ante for that hand. Whoever won the hand, scooped the pot and the added Splash The Pot bonus money.
Each and every hand had the chance of activating the Splash The Pot feature and you would know when it hits because your table glows gold, the pot size turns gold, and chips fall onto the table!
The chance of Splash The Pot being activated was based on the size of the pot from the previous hand, so playing for bigger pots (in relation to your stakes) meant more rewards are given out.
