Parker Talbot is best known in the poker world for his exploits online with more than $3.4 million in online tournament cashes. His popularity soared with his popular Twitch stream under the handle “tonkaaaaP”.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Talbot became interested in poker at a young age of 13 after watching the World Poker Tour on television with his parents. He played against his dad for many years before he first played in a casino on his 18th birthday.
Talbot immediately lost the $100 he had before his father gave him another $100 as a present. From there, he never looked back.
The origins of his popular “tonkaaaa” and “tonkaaaaP” online screennames came about thanks to his hockey coach calling him a Tonka truck and the nickname sticking.
All six of Talbot’s online tournament cashes of at least $50,000 were under the screenname “tonkaaaa” at PokerStars.
In February 2012, Talbot took second place in the $215 Sunday Million for over $88,000. He followed this up a few months later with a runner-up performance in the $1,050 Super Tuesday for almost $51,000.
In September 2014, Talbot won the Super Tuesday for almost $101,000. A year later in September 2015, he snagged second place in the $530 Sunday 500 for almost $56,000.
Two more huge online scores came his way the following year. In March 2016, he took second place in the $1,050 Thursday Thrill for more than $55,000 plus bounties. Then in May 2016, he secured his biggest cash to date with a runner-up performance in the SCOOP $215 Sunday Warm-up for over $109,000.
Talbot’s claim to fame comes more from his very popular “tonkaaaaP” twitch stream that attracts thousands of viewers per show.
Talbot has recorded nearly $400,000 in live tournament cashes as of 2018 despite never finding the winner’s circle. In August 2016, Talbot nailed down his biggest tournament cash with a seventh-place finish in the EPT Barcelona €25,500 No Limit Hold’em - Single Re-Entry 8 Handed event for €160,080 ($180,909).
