Biography

Gershon Distenfeld is the co-head of Fixed Income and Director of Credit at AllianceBernstein. He is also a poker-player and philanthropist.

Distenfeld shot to prominence after final-tabling the 2020 WSOP Main Event, promising to donate all his winnings to charity, something that stems from his Modern Orthodox Jewish religion.

“I am not in this for personal financial gain. I will be donating 100% of my poker winnings (net of any taxes) to charity,” he told PokerNews. “The charities I have chosen thus far encompass many of my and my wife Aviva’s personal areas of interest which include organizations with proven track records in helping those less fortunate and more vulnerable improve their lives.”

In 2021, Distenfeld made it to the final-table of Event #48: $1,500 Shootout No-Limit Hold'em and again promised to donate any winnings to charity.

He would go on to win the event for $204,063 and his first World Series of Poker bracelet

"I’ve always dreamt of winning one, and it’s one of those things you think is never going to happen," he told PokerNews. "I just don’t know what to say. I even teared up a little bit which is not very like me."
