Leg 4 of the GUKPT Sees the Tour Head to Reading South

2022 GUKPT Reading

The Grosvenor G Casino in Reading will be jam-packed full of poker players from the length and breadth of the country when the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) heads to town from July 17, bringing with it a £1,000 buy-in Main Event.

Everything kicks off with the £250 buy-in Mini Main Event, a tournament that is traditionally well attended. It features a trio of flights, including one with a turbo blind structure, and it crowns its champion on July 20.

July 21-24 is when the £1,000 GUKPT Reading Main Event is in place. Like the Mini Main, it has three Day 1s, and a Day 2, before wrapping up on July 24. If previous GUKPT Main Events from 2022 are anything to go by, there should be a bumper attendance and a top prize in excess of £50,000.

Past GUKPT Reading Champions

This will be the seventh time the GUKPT had dropped anchor in Reading, but the first time since season 12 in 2018.

James Martin won the inaugural GUKPT Reading Main Event in Season 7 back in 2013. Martin came out on top after striking a deal with third-place finisher Ellie Biessek and runner-up Jeff Kimber.

Paul Vas Nunes triumphed in Season 8 after a four-way deal involving Haresh Thaker, Daniel James, and second place finisher Willie Tann.

Raul Martinez's victory in Season 9 was also part of a deal, this time with Hui Jin, Harry Dukes, and Julian Davies, while Ryan Spittles continued the deal-making trend in Season 10 on his way to victory.

British legend Ali Mallu won in Season 11, scooping £35,310, which is still the largest GUPKT Reading biggest prize. That should be blown out of the water this year, however, because the buy-in for the 2022 edition is £1,000 instead of £550.

The reigning champion, having won in Season 12, is an anonymous player who outlasted 244 opponents and banked £35,100.
