Lee French Crowned 30/30 GUKPT Manchester Champion

Lee French

After a massive opening leg of the 2021 Grosvenor Poker Tour (GUKPT) season, GUKPT Manchester seems to be following suit. The 30/30 side event, a £360 buy-in no-limit hold’em affair, drew in a 471-strong crowd, who created a £169,560 prize pool.

GUKPT regular, Lee French, took down the 30/30 event and walked away with £33,168 after a four-handed deal, the Coventry grinder’s largest live poker tournament score.

Euan McNicholas Wins GUKPT Main Event For £165,800

Nobody at the nine-handed final table could win less than £2,490, which is the prize Barry Grime collected when he was the first finalist out of the door. Paul Rigg joined Grime on the sidelines, doing so with a £2,990 prize to keep him company.

Seventh-place and £3,820 went to Andrew Cockroft, before Robert Ooi fell by the wayside in sixth, a finish worth £5,150. The final elimination was that of Mark Dyson in fifth-place. Dyson finished 14th in the 2020 GUKPT Manchester Main Event for £3,420, he beat that prize by £3,730 in this tournament.

The final four players decided to end the tournament prematurely after a four-handed chop of the remaining prize pool. This resulted in a £20,810 score for Dean Clyne, a £23,954 haul for Carl Pickles, and a £24,618 bankroll addition for Daniel Kothari.

Lee French was crowned champion, an accolade that came with a £33,168 prize. It is French’s sixth five-figure prize of his live poker career, and his largest overall. The £33,168 eclipses the £25,000 awarded to French when he won the National 25/50 tournament at the 2017 GUKPT Goliath festival.

Maguire On Course For a £41,230 Payout

The GUKPT Manchester Mini Main Event crowns its champion on August 11, and it is Chris Maguire who is the man to catch going into the final table. The Coventry-based grinder is guaranteed £1,930 for his efforts so far but is eight eliminations away from a £41,230 haul.

Shout-out to Paul Rigg who finds himself third in chips at the Mini Main Event final table after finishing eighth in the 30/30 event.

Large prizes are up for grabs thanks to 726 players buying in and creating a £164,120 prize pool.

Massive GUKPT Manchester Main Event Shuffles Up and Deals on August 12

Day 1A of the 2021 GUKPT Manchester Main Event shuffles up and deals at 12:00 p.m. BST on August 12, and everything points towards it being massive. £1,250 is the total cost of buying in unless you win your way into it via one of the £55 rebuy satellites taking place.

Ben Dobson is the reigning GUKPT Manchester Main Event champion having triumphed in March 2020, which happened to be the last GUKPT event before the COVID-19 related restrictions and lockdowns caused havoc with the world.

Dobson defeated Ben Winsor heads-up, reeled in a £75,510 score for his efforts, and joined a long list of poker stars who have taken down a GUKPT Main Event in Manchester.
