Brandon Sheils Secures Largest Online Score
It was a weekend to remember for Brandon Sheils thanks to the popular grinder locking in the largest online poker tournament score of his career to date.
Sheils was one of 6,591 entrants in the Battle of Malta Main Event at GGPoker. Only 989 of those starters made it through to the final day, and 700 of those final day players walked away with at least €1,367 of the ginormous €3,443,797 prize pool.
partypoker MILLIONS Online champion Endrit Geci was one British star who saw a return on their investment. Others included John "JBradley" Bradley, "TheHat1994," Harry "Vulvasore" Lodge, and Irishman Dara O'Kearney.
The nine players who navigated their way to the final table guaranteed themselves a payout of at least €37,828, but the top five finishers were set to receive a six-figure prize. Sheils went into the final table as the third-shortest stack, his 13,734,673 stack the equivalent of 34 big blinds.
Our hero climbed up the payouts with the eliminations of "NetWizards," Joao "Wim Hof" Ferreira, Georgios Sotiropoulos, and "allini" but then disaster struck.
With the 400,000/800,000/100,000a blinds forcing Sheils' hand, he open-shoved for 4,500,000 from the cutoff with what turned out to be queen-jack. The shove looked to have gotten through until Dzmitry Urbanovich called with suited king-ten from the big blind. A king on the flop left Sheils drawing very thin, with a five on the turn leaving him drawing dead.
Although disappointed not to take down this massive event, Sheils has €119,624 reasons to be happy with his performance, not least because it is his biggest-ever online score. Sheils' largest cash came in September 2018 when he won the £1,100 MILLIONS UK Open event for £180,000. PokerNews is certain this will not be Sheils' last six-figure haul.
Also at GGPoker, Jesse "sabor_de_mar" Wigan helped himself to a $14,813 score by finishing fourth in the $250 Sunday Main. Fellow Brit "steadyon" was the eighth place finisher in that tournament, a result that came with a $4,684 addition to his bankroll.
Shout-out also to Luke Schwartz who scooped $2,130 for a seventh-place exit from the $525 Omaholic Sunday Bounty HR.
Final Tables Galore at Stars
Over at PokerStars, three English players and one irishman made up four of the eight finalists ion the $530 Sunday Marathon.
Dan "NukeTheFish!" Wilson finished eighth for $1,192, Luke "Bit2Easy" Reeves bowed out in sixth for $2,126, before Sam "SamSquid" Grafton and Andy "BowieEffect" Wilson chopped the tournamrnt when heads-up. Grafton officially finished in second place for $8,095 with Wilson winning slightly less, $7,716, but taking the victory.
Two other PokerStars final tables had our players seated at them, too. Patrick "pads1161" Leonard finished eighth in the $1,050 Sunday High Roller for $5,689, while Conor "1_conor_b_1" Beresford and "26071985" finished ninth and third in the $1,050 Sunday Cooldown for $3,210 and $6,288 respectively.
Brits Shine in the 888poker Big Shot Events
Finally, the action from 888poker where "NEzyWOut" claimed the $507 eighth-place prize in the $20,000 Sunday Big Shot 55, a tournament that Ireland's "xxBanioNxx" finished second for $3,280.
The larger $150,000 Big Shot 109 Main Event saw "Harley_Quinn" finish ninth for $2,070, while "casual_win" and "ClaretBantam" finished fifth and sixth in the $50,000 Big Shot 525 for scores of $3,500 and $2,625 respectively.
