Michael “Biceps82” Matar Flexes His Muscles in the Turbo Series

Sunday Briefing

Multi-table tournament grinders were spoiled for choice this weekend with massive festivals, series, and events taking place across the online poker world.

The Turbo Series at PokerStars was one such major festival that players from the United Kingdom and Ireland are getting involved in. Michael “Biceps82” Matar is one such player. Matar entered the Turbo Series 64: $1,050 NLHE 8-Max Progressive KO along with 1,124 other players. Five hours and seven minutes later, Matar found himself as the only player left in the tournament with all 56,250,000 chips in play in front of him.

First place in this Turbo Series event weighed in at $77,237 but that only tells part of the story because the tournament was a PKO event. Matar’s bounty payment added $91,230 to his main prize pool prize for a combined score worth an incredible $168,467!

Another of our players reached the same final table but their time there was short-lived. Ireland’s “ArtHouse2011” fell in ninth place and collected $15,167 for their efforts.

Learn more about the PokerStars Turbo Series

The Turbo Series was particularly kind to “Agent Bear” of the UK. Agent Bear turned an $11 investment into $31,901 by finishing third, and being involved in a chop, in the Turbo Series 65: $11 NLHE Phase event, which we’re sure you’ll agree is a fantastic result.

*includes bounties

There is every chance our players will bag themselves a six-figure prize this evening because there are plenty of Union Jacks displayed in the lobby of in-play events.

Patrick “thebigdog09” Brooks is fourth from 86 players in the Sunday Million where $112,960 awaits the eventual champion.

Another Patrick, Leonard, is fourth in chips in the $5,200 Titans Event where only 25 of the 184 starters remain. Luke “Bit2Easy” Reeves is fifth in chips in the same event where the top three finishers win at least $119,422 and as much as $198,379.

British and Irish Players Run Deep at partypoker

There was plenty to shout about over at partypoker, too, where the MILLIONS Online series is in full swing. Three of our heroes navigated their way to the final table of the $1,050 MILLIONS Online #16 Warm Up, and all three padded their bankrolls with chunky prizes.

Daniel Smyth’s tournament was done and dusted in eighth-place, a finish worth $13,886 with bounties included. Smyth’s fellow Irishman Joseph Lalor busted in fifth for $25,798 while Matthew Eardley fell at the final hurdle, losing out to Julien Sitbon heads-up. Eardley collected an impressive $56,782 for his runner-up finish.

There are a handful of our players through to Day 2 of the MILLIONS Online Main Event, which shuffles up and deals at 7:05 p.m. GMT. Endrit Geci has a top 10 stack from the 160 returning players, while the likes of Simon Deadman and Stephen Chidwick are still in contention for the $892,274 top prize. Follow the PokerNews Live Reporting updates and keep an eye on both Alan Ford and Martin Bremner who won their $5,300 seats for this event via a $5.50 satellite!

New 888poker Tournaments Prove Popular

888poker revamped its tournament schedule last week and the new events proved popular during their opening weekend.

“attikusz7” and “surfyo24” both reached the final table of the inaugural $150,000 Big Shot 109 Main Event. Sadly, neither managed to take it down, but the former banked $4,770 for a sixth-place finish with the latter netting $2,070 for their exit in ninth-place.

Four of our players were at the final table of the $18,000 Sunday Big Shot 22. “Plumpkin22” fell in ninth for $357, Ireland’s “Nicolas_Cage” busted in fourth for $1,484, before “Gambit160” busted in third for a $2,003 score. “M3LISS4” found themselves heads-up against Brazil’s Lui “LuiMartins” Martins and ultimately had to settle for second-place prize money of $2,725.
