UK & Ireland Global Poker Index: Chidwick and Clarke Lead
Table Of Contents
Stephen Chidwick tops the UK Global Poker Index and is also the number one in the world for live poker tournaments. All but two of the British top 20 also reside in the GPI 300, which is quite a remarkable achievement.
Chidwick is always going to be at or near the top of the rankings thanks to his almost unnatural ability to go deep in high rollers and super high roller tournaments. While the British Poker Open and 2019 Poker Masters didn’t go to plan for Chidwick, he still added more than $400,000 to his lifetime winnings, which stand at more than $31 million at present.
Ben Heath has soared to second in the UK and 42nd in the world thanks to a handful of impressive scores since winning his first WSOP bracelet in Las Vegas. Heath finished third in the £100,000 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London Main Event and walked away with £1,350,000.
Number three in the UK right now is Jack Salter thanks in part to his victory in the WPTDeepStacks event in at WPT Montreal. Salter scooped C$151,220 for his victory, which came a few days after a 39/1109 finish in he C$3,300 buy-in WPT Montreal Main Event.
Ludovic Geilich’s 14th place finish in the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS World Bahamas Main Event saw his bankroll swell by $65,000 and he is now fourth in the UK while fellow Scotsman Niall Farrell is ninth in the UK following a trio of cashes at the Caribbean Poker Party, most notably his fifth-place finish in the $25,500 Super High Roller than banked “Firaldo” $200,000.
Also performing well in The Bahamas was Scott Margereson who cashed twice for $125,000 with Benny Glaser netting €111,689 when he finished fourth in the €25,500 Mixed Games Championship at the 2019 WSOP Europe festival in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.

Former Irish Open Champion Patrick Clarke Reigns in Ireland
Patrick Clarke is the number one ranked poker tournament player in Ireland and the only Irish grinder in the Global Poker Index top 300. Clarke reigns supreme in the Emerald Isle and finds himself 131st in the world.
It is easy to see why Clarke has soared to the summit. A victory in an €1,100 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Europe Opener netted him €160,300 and Clarke followed that up with a win in the €1,000 Winamax Poker Open High Roller for an additional €40,640. he then cashed in both the Battle of Malta Main Event and the partypoker LIVE Caribbean Poker Party MILLIONS Main Event.
Clarke now has $1,584,775 in live tournament winnings.
Otherwise, it has been a quiet couple of months for the Irish contingent. Mark Gruendemann had two cashes in Tapei and another in the WPT Cambodia Main Event, while Michael Foley continues to grind in the United States, a recent result saw him finish 12/339 in a $600 DeepStack Extravaganza VI event for $2,893.
Keith Brennan won a $1,100 event at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Florida for $104,035 a couple of months ago while a trio of cashes at the 2019 Malta Poker Festival for Darren Harbinson sees him jump into the Irish top 20.
