partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Main Event Day 1b: Duta Continues Hot Form
After only 38 players turned out for Day 1a of the £5 million guaranteed partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Main Event, a more substantial crowd of 165 showed up for Day 1b. The Day 1b field was split almost exactly in half with 88 players punching their ticket for Friday’s Day 2.

UK-based Romanian Florian Duta claimed the overnight chip lead by finishing the day with 5,800,000 chips in his stack. Duta has been in hot form all year with six cashes at the 2018 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, a $429,161 victory in the $1,600 Wynn Summer Classic, also in Las Vegas, before taking down the 2018 GUKPT Goliath for a £101,450 score. There’s a long way to go in this tournament, but don’t bet against Duta making yet another deep run.
A host of stars bagged up enough chips to place them in the top 10 of the chip counts.
Canada’s Eric Afriat, a player with two World Poker Tour titles and more than $2.7 million in live poker tournament winnings, finished Day 1b third in chips with a stack of 4,150,000 in his arsenal.
Marc Macdonnell of Ireland, the tournament’s reigning champion Maria Lampropulos, Scott “Aggro Santos” Margereson and two-time WSOP bracelet winner and all round poker legend Barny Boatman all excelled on the second starting flight.
Day 1b was the flight many of the game’s top pros chose to start their MILLIONS UK Main Event quest.
Elite grinders such as Dara O’Kearney, Alex Lynskey, Michael Tureniec, Dominik Panka, Vojtech Ruzicka, Anton Wigg, Dan Shak, partypoker pro Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Alex Foxen, Steven van Zadehoff, Kenny Hallaert, Benjamin Pollak, Michael Kane, Andy Black, Jeff Kimber, and Adrian Mateos all progressed to Day 2.
The second starting flight didn’t exactly go to plan for Jack Salter, Michael Zhang, Chris Sly, Paul Vas Nunes and Max Silver who will all have to fire another bullet on Day 1c if they are to become the MILLIONS UK Main Event champion.
Day 1c kicked off at 12:00 p.m. on Oct. 3 and needs 776 players to buy in if the £5 million guarantee is to be met. Late registration is open until 5:00 p.m. on Day 2, so that gives players an extra chance to get involved in this massive event.
