  • Tom “tjbentham” Bentham became a WCOOP champion and won $191,476 at PokerStars on Sep. 9.

Tom “tjbentham” Bentham swapped high stakes cash games for a high roller WCOOP tournament and it turned out to be a fantastic decision as he romped home to victory and banked $191,476.

Bentham has been one of online poker’s consistent winners in the high stakes cash games, but the lure of the WCOOP-27-H: $5,200 PLO 6-Max High Roller proved too strong for him to resist. The British pro was joined by 191 opponents who helped smash the $500,000 guarantee by $460,000.

After another Brit, Gavin “gavz101” Cochrane busted in 24th place, the remaining players found themselves in the money. “Skintz” and Richard “raconteur” Gryko both cashed in the first tier of the payouts before Niall “onehandturks” Charlton of the UK fell in ninth-place for $30,062, outlasting the likes of Kristen “krissyb24” Bicknell and Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond.

Our hero then bulldozed his way to victory in this PLO event and turned his $5,200 investment into a much more substantial $191,476 and a WCOOP title.

We are missing the 888poker scores from this week’s report as the site was suffering serious connectivity issues that meant some tournaments run with only a fraction of the usual number of runners or were cancelled outright. We hop they return for next week’s report.
