UK & Ireland Sunday Briefing: Ian Simpson Victorious at 888poker
Former Irish Open champion Ian Simpson helped himself to a five-figure score this weekend by taking down an online event at 888poker.
Simpson, playing as “Simpioni,” was one of 1,070 players to enter the $50,000 Wonderland Mini Main Event at 888poker, a $55 buy-in tournament. After more than 12 hours of play, Simpson emerged victorious to get his hands on the $12,546 first-place prize.
888poker was a happy hunting ground for players with a British IP address. The UK-based Spaniard known as “MalakiasCF” won not one but three events at 888poker. The first netted him $33,000 and was for winning the $120,000 Whale and he then took down the $100,000 Mega Deep for an additional $19,250. Completing a hat trick of wins was the $10,000 Crocodile which netted him $3,327; Ireland’s David “FMiniBabybel” Lappin finished second for $2,238.
Over at PokerStars, Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis finished seventh in the Bigger $109 for a $3,526 score while “Noobladonk” helped himself to the $25,496 sixth-place prize on offer in the $215 Sunday Million.

Ireland’s “nowyousaidit” banked $1,819 for finishing eighth in the Hotter $109 and “CantWinAFlip” must have won a few flips on his way to finishing third in the Bigger $215, a result that netted the Brit $11,184.
