United Kingdom Global Poker Index: Stephen Chidwick Leads
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. For a look at the entire list, visit the official GPI website. Here's a look at the rankings for the United Kingdom as of Sep. 30.
UK Global Poker Index Top 20 (Sep. 30, 2017)
|UK Rank||World Rank||Player||Points|
Stephen Chidwick is the man to catch in the United Kingdom’s rankings and is the only British player to be ranked in the top 10 of the Global Poker Index. Chidwick, who was recently married, cemented top spot in the UK following his win in the €25,500 High Roller event at PokerStars Championship Barcelona and a third-place finish in another €25,500 buy-in event; Chidwick won a combined €911,100 from those two events.
Second-placed Jack Salter was another UK player to record a cash at the PokerStars Championship Barcelona festival. Salter finished fourth in the €2,150 turbo event and netted €29,130.
partypoker ambassador Patrick Leonard finds himself in seventh place in the UK partly because of his amazing results in Las Vegas this summer. Leonard won a brace of $25,000 High Roller events at Aria for a combined $789,600 and then won a $10,400 buy-in tournament at the Bellagio for an additional $475,940. Leonard is now only $812 shy of the $2 million mark for live poker tournament winnings.
One place below Leonard is Usman Siddique who has been going about his business in a quiet but efficient manner. Some of Siddique’s results from the current year include a third-place finish in a £2,700 8-Max event at the partypoker MILLIONS UK festival for £105,000, a fifth-place finish in a $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Mix event at the 2017 World Series of Poker for $39,565 and a sixth-place finish in the PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event that netted him a cool €252,000.
Sam Grafton now finds himself in 11th place following his win in the €1,100 PokerStars Festival Bucharest Main Event, a result that added €117,707 to his lifetime winnings, and an 11th place finish in the €10,300 PokerStars Championship Barcelona High Roller that was worth €75,100.
Finally, for the UK at least, a shout out to Luke Brereton who has some exceptional results on his GPI profile. Brereton has more than $1.2 million in earnings, an impressive figure helped by a runner-up finish in the $2,000 Goliath Phamous Poker Series Main Event worth $260,964 and an eighth-place finish in the $5,250 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open for $100,408.
