UK & Ireland Sunday Briefing: Chris Day Wins a Powerfest Event

London’s Chris Day was one of the big winners on Sep. 17 courtesy of him shipping a Powerfest event at partypoker.

Day, playing as “CD_03,” bought into the $500K Gtd Final Phase event along with 2,189 other players. After more than 12 hours of action, Day found himself in the final four and looking at a huge score. That quartet decided to strike a deal that locked up at least $40,398, but Day finished in first place to grab the $54,177 first place prize and a seat in the Tournament of Champions.

Earning a similar sum was none other than Jonathan “jgjg3000” Gill. The popular grinder almost came away with a victory in the $1,050 Championship Event but finished in fourth place for a $50,000 slice of the $1,000,000 prize pool, the second largest cash of Gill’s career.

The biggest cash at partypoker by someone who calls the United Kingdom or Ireland home went to Keith “TheImprover99” Cummins. The man from Killarney finished fourth in the $5,200 Championship Event and scooped an impressive $105,000.

Also at partypoker, Patrick “Patrick_Leonard” Leonard finished fifth in the $500K Gtd High Roller for $34,125, Oliver “ThreeBunPass” Price was the ninth-place finisher in the $250K Gtd High Roller for $3,833 and “BenRichards1” bust seventh in the same tournament Price reached the final table at and banked $6,708.

Over to PokerStars now where “Fear1sWisdom” secured a $62,655 payday by finishing fifth in the $2,100 NLHE 8-Max WCOOP event and where “FatBoyShrek” won the Big $162 for a $5,200 addition to his bankroll.

There were a series of near misses at PokerStars with “tua133” finished second in the Hot $162 for $7,423, Ireland’s “miauzeris” finishing fifth in the $215 Bounty Builder for a total of $9,416 and “lov10k” bust from the Hot $162 in ninth place for $1,381.

In the Big $215, “calvo1989” of Ireland bust in ninth place for $1,881 with the UK’s “readabet” going two places deeper and locking up $3,573, and in the $109 Sunday Cooldown, “JimmiesBoss” finished in seventh place for $3,443.

Mentions also have to go to “Hansaraba” for their third place finish in the $33 Sunday Rebuy, a finish worth $7,593, to Marc “sledge13” Hodge for his fourth place finish in the Big $22 for $4,718, to Charlie “JIZOINT” Combes for his $5,567 score for finishing third in the $55 Sunday Stack and to “AJFC6819” for winning the Hot $33 for $8,722.

Finally, the results from 888poker. In the $250,000 Whale XL Eclipse edition, “duchasp4rati” reached the final table before busting in ninth place for $6,040 while Rick “WhosToClaim” Trigg banked $6,118 by finishing third in the $50,000 Turbo Mega Deep, the same tournament “Juanfran1973” finished fifth in for $2,926.

The in-form Paul “Senta99” Senter bust from the $150,000 Mega Deep in ninth place for $2,822 while the player known as “evianwater1” walked away with top honours in the $100,000 Sunday Challenge, turning his $109 into $21,430.
