UK & Ireland Sunday Briefing: Gary Thompson Victorious at 888poker

Sunday Briefing
  • Which British and Irish players won big online over the weekend? Find out in the Sunday Briefing.

Ireland’s Gary “garyt20” Thompson enjoyed a profitable Sunday session this weekend thanks to taking down the $50,000 Sunday Challenge at 888poker.

Thompson, who has more than $900,000 in online winnings, navigated his way through the 478-strong field in the $90 buy-in tournament and found himself heads-up against Germany’s “Imyurfriend.” The last standing pair struck a deal that saw Thompson secure a $9,762 payout and his German opponent $9,052

Also at 888poker, two British players were at the final table of the $30,000 Turbo Mega Deep. “BoobJob32DD” finished in fifth-place for $3,456 and Sam “JstLikeThat” Dearman bust in third-place for $4,665.

There was a similar story in the $80,000 Mega Deep where Carl “SwansFC_CJ” Johns finished fifth for $5,313 and “rascada” finished in second-place, but not before striking a deal that netted him $15,417.

Across to PokerStars now where “g1blet” took down the $109 Sunday Kickoff for $15,052 and where “luckyfish89” turned $215 into $4,633 by finishing eighth in the Sunday Warm-Up.

“IFIBETIMGOOD” managed to reach the final table of the $215 Sunday Million but fell in eighth-place for $13,423, “Rimlog” collected $5,566 for finishing eighth in the $1,050 Sunday Grand NLHE, and “Tagult” banked $7,782 for their fifth-place finish in the $1,050 Sunday Grand PLO.

In some of the smaller buy-in PokerStars tournaments, “domj1” finished seventh in the $22 Double Deuce and locked up $2,037 while three of our players reached the final table of the Big $22. “ManuelBDass” finished in ninth-place for $782, “flopkin51” saw their tournament end in sixth-place for $2,264 and “sharon gh” finished second for a $10,849 addition to their bankroll.

Finally, “DAEHBONK” followed in the aforementioned Thompson’s footsteps and emerged victorious in the $22 Mini Sunday Supersonic for a cool $10,983.
