UK & Ireland Sunday Briefing: Sam Grafton Wins Big
Sam Grafton is one of the most popular poker players hailing from the United Kingdom. Gratfon is known, and loved, for his table talk and fun-loving personality, yet under comic disguise lays a talented tournament specialist.
Gratfon drew close to having $5 million in online poker tournament winnings on Mar. 26 when he triumphed in the $1,050 Sunday Grand NLHE at PokerStars and walked away with $52,633; Grafton now has $4.755 million in online winnings.
The Sunday Grand NLHE is one of the toughest tournaments found anywhere online, as is evident by this week’s final table being the home to such luminaries as Finland’s “€urop€an,” Team PokerStars Pro Igor “IgorKurganov” Kurganov, Aaron “AaronBeen” Been, November Niner Kenny “SpaceyFCB” Hallaert and Chris “Big Huni” Hunichen among others. But it was Grafton who came out of the tournament smiling and with fourth largest cash of his long, online career.
Earlier on Mar. 26, Ryan “planty07/08” Plant finished third in the $109 Sunday Starter for $3,224 and three players who call the UK home reached the final table of the $109 Sunday Kickoff. “PalomoBuchon” won it for $19,501 with “Pe-T” and “Jokerovios” finishing third and fourth for scores of $10,269 and $7,452.
There was a similar story in the $215 Sunday Warm-Up where Christopher “WadeShaq03” Day (sixth for $10,175), “wilmy_x” (fourth for $19,683) and “sct29” (second for $38,073) navigated their way to the nine-handed final table. This event was taken down by Ireland’s “darius8989” who walked away $52,953 richer than when he started his Sunday grind.
“CHRISCCC” helped himself to the $8,967 ninth place prize on offer in the $215 Sunday Million while “R_Scientist” finished third in the Big $215 for $13,278; Billy “b8chatz” Chattaway and Paul “pvas2” Vas Nunes finished in fifth and sixth place for scores of $6,992 and $5,074.
In the $109 Sunday Cooldown, Ireland’s “owensey74” collected $8,832 for his fourth place finish to wrap up the major results at PokerStars.
Over at 888poker, “badmodafoka1” was the ninth-place finisher in the $100,000 Baby Whale, a finish worth $1,795 while at partypoker, Allan “GRANDAD_BAZ” Peers finished second in the $150K Gtd Main Event and turned $109 into $19,497.
