Sunday Briefing

  • Spain's Manu "manuverd0n" Bardon debuts at number four in the UK online poker rankings top 20.

Laws and regulations surrounding online poker in Spain has led to dozens of Spanish grinders emigrating to the United Kingdom so they can continue their careers at the virtual felt.

The likes of Vicente “vicenfish” Delgado and Oscar “MendaLerenda” Serradell have long been among the top 20 online poker tournament players, according to the ranking system at PocketFives.com, but now the UK has another elite player on its shores.

Manu “mbo90” Bardon swapped Spain for Cardiff, Wales and is one of the best online poker tournament players of his generation. Those of you who follow the biggest tournaments at PokerStars will no doubt have come across the alias “manuverd0n” which is what Bardon plays as on the world’s largest online poker site.

Bardon only created his PocketFives account on Feb. 15 and comes straight in at number four in the UK and 36th in the world, thanks in part to amassing almost $1.3 million in winnings.

Partypoker ambassador Patrick “pleno1” Leonard is still the man at the top of the pile, followed by Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford, Soctland’s Ludovic “ludovi333” Geilich, Bardon and Phil “philroyal888” Mighall.

Somehow remaining in 12th place is Rick “TheClaimer” Trigg despite some excellent results. Last weekend, Trigg won the $25,000 Sunday Lightning 6-Max at 888poker for $7,682 and finished sixth in the partypoker $50,000 Gtd Weigh-In for $2,839. A couple of nights ago, Trigg won the $109 NLHE for 2,001 and was the runner-up in the Hot $44 for $3,546, both at PokerStars.

Climbing three places to 13th in the UK is Luke “LFmagic” Fields courtesy of winning the $22 Double Deuce Turbo at PokerStars for a cool $21,806, while Jonathan “Gil3000” Gill returns to the top 20 on the back of winning the $215 Bounty Builder at PokerStars for $7,556 and chopping the $40,000 Gtd Progressive KO Uppercut at partypoker for almost $6,500.

Noogaii Climbs to Fourth Place in Ireland

Dan “NukeTheFish!” Wilson, James “Jaymo” Noonan and Toby “JobyToyce” Joyce still occupied places one through three in Ireland, but “Noogaii” climbs a few spots and now resides in fourth place in the Emerald Isle.

The Galway-based grinder triumphed in the $109 Sunday Cooldown at Pokerstars on Feb. 12 and netted himself $22,407, which happens to be the fifth-largest score of his online career, and followed that impressive result up with a victory in the $22 NLHE 6-Max Hyper-Turbo for $1,628, also at PokerStars.
