The 2017 Aussie Millions at Crown Melbourne is wrapping up with most of the 26 events now in the books. United Kingdom’s Sam Grafton outlasted a star-studded final table to win the 22nd event of the series for AUD$140,860. Event #22 featured a $5,000 buy-in and was the last six-max event on the schedule.
While Grafton’s victory was also his first cash in an Aussie Millions event, the British poker player has experienced success in the past with over $700,000 in career live poker tournament cashes, which includes a win in the 2012 GUKPT Grand Final London Main Event for £102,700.
The final table included one big name after another. American Seth Davies, who has almost $1.2 million in career cashes, was the first to go on the final table after being eliminated in sixth place for AUD$23,475.
Two-time World Series of Poker gold-bracelet winner Michael Gathy from Belgium was the next to be eliminated in fifth place for AUD$33,910.
American Pierce McKellar secured his second Aussie Millions cash this year after being eliminated in fourth place for AUD$62,605.
Australian poker legend Grant Levy added to his impressive poker resume which now includes five Aussie Millions final table appearances, departed in third place for AUD$62,605.
Former spelling bee champion Pratyush Buddiga and Grafton were the last two standing in the tournament. Buddiga’s poker resume includes $5.3 million in poker earnings, which included a third place finish in the 2015 Aussie Millions Event #8: $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Challenge for AUD$335,000.
However, it was Grafton who earned the victory, leaving Buddiga with the runner-up prize of AUD$96,515.
