£400K Grand Final Brings Curtain Down on 2016 GUKPT

2016 GUKPT Grand Final
  • The 2016 GUKPT ends with the £400,000 guaranteed Grand Final, which runs from November 20-27.

  • Take a look back at the results of the 2016 GUKPT and past Grand Final winners.

It is fair to say the 2016 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, the 10th season of the tour, has been a success with only one of its eight legs missing its guarantee. The Main Events of the 2016 tour are now complete and the Grand Final is right around the corner, ready to bring the curtain down on this season.

Martin Hogarty was the first champion of the 2014 GUKPT, outlasting 394 opponents in London to get his hands on the £66,538 first place prize. Joining Hogarty in the champion’s club was Reyaaz Mulla who was victorious in Manchester.

Popular pro Ryan Spittles took down the first £550 buy in GUKPT in Reading, netting a cool £31,100. Other £550 buy in Main Event champions were Lee Wai Kiat, American Brett Kennedy, and Ha Le.

The final two events on the 2016 GUKPT saw the buy in return to £1,100. Driton Haxhiaj took full advantage of the larger buy in and prize pool in Luton, winning £61,520, while former European Poker Tour champion Tom Middleton walked away with the Blackpool title and the £56,255 top prize.

The season-ending Grand Final is the tournament that all GUKPT regulars look forward to. Not only has it traditionally created the largest prize pools on the tour, it also attracts some of the best players in the UK, Ireland, and even Europe to the GUKPT-branded tables.

Canada’s Leo Kam won the first GUKPT Grand Final for £119,590. Back then, the buy-in was only £1,050 but since then has never been less than £2,125.

Paul Folytn’s £167,050 win was only the largest-ever GUKPT score for 12 months because former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland footballer Tony Cascarino won £168,800 by becoming Season 3’s Grand Final champion.

Cascarino’s score topped that of Sam Grafton, Fabian Quoss, Kevin Allen, and Charlie Carrel, but when Ben Winsor triumphed in the Season 8 GUKPT Grand Final he won £178,600 to earn the title of biggest winner from a single GUKPT event.
