Sunday Briefing: Festival Finales Create Massive Prize Pools
With the PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker, partypoker Powerfest, and the 888poker Super XL Series reaching their latter stages, there was some massive prize pool played for online this Sunday. As seems to always be the case, player from the United Kingdom and Ireland did their countries proud, and won some huge sums of cash. Here are the biggest scores enjoyed by our players.
The $1,500,000 Super XL Main Event smashed its guarantee by $240,000 and although it wasn’t an Irish player of a UK grinder who took it down, we did have a couple of players at the final table.
“|1Ja_Cks1|” fell in ninth place for $18,792 with Sam “sammygrindrr” Grafton busting in eighth place for $33,930. Shout out to the UK-based German and 888poker ambassador Dominik “888Dominik” Nitsche who finished third, but not before negotiating a three-way deal that bagged him $206,400.36.
Another player with a Union Jack next to their name was “malakiasCF” who was the runner-up in the $200,000 Super XL Mega Deep, a finish worth $33,900. Also at that final table was Ireland’s “ValterBG” who fell in eighth place for $5,288.40.
Keeping with 888poker and to the $50,000 Turbo Mega Deep where Baard “bvdahl” Dahl emerged victorious, claiming the $12,267.90 first place prize, and in the $150,000 Super XL Mini Main Event, Ireland’s “consummate” managed a fifth place finish worth $11,150.62.
At PokerStars, the $109 Sunday Kickoff ended in a four-way chop with “Gunners88” finishing in fourth place for $15,659.28. Before then, “wisopekeno!” was eliminated in sixth place for $5,368.46.
“tua133” reached the final table of the Big $109, their tournament ending in an eighth place finish worth $3,369.24, while “THE LION ESP” and “camel64” finished fifth and eighth in the Hot $162 for $6,423.07 and $2,454.77.
This week’s $700 Super-Sized Sunday saw “Kukurruky$” fall in seventh place for $8,790.90, with “benbenkiller” finishing fourth in the Hot $109 for $8,306.26, and Ireland’s Stephen “adiprene1” McDonald banking $25,312.14 for their fourth place finish in the Sunday Grand PLO.
Last, and definitely not least, two Sunday scores from the WCOOP-79: $320 NL Hold’em where “tobi123456” came fifth for $37,212.62 and Ireland’s “Noogaii” took down the whole shebang for $120,008.69 after a four-way chop. We’ll have a full recap of the WCOOP action once the final events finish later today.
