Sunday Briefing: Adam Owen Wins Super XL Series Event #7

Adam Owen

The $4 million guaranteed Super XL Series kicked off this weekend at 888poker and already we have a British champion in one of the events.

Event #7 was the $250,000 Super XL Whale, a $600 buy-in tournament attracting 535 players who created a guarantee-busting prize pool of $302,275. This princely sim was shared among the top 72 finishers, one of those being Rick “whostoclaim” Trigg who fell in eighth place for $6,801.18.

Finishing four places above Trigg was “malakiasCF” who collected $23,275.17, but it was Adam “Adamyid” Owen who was the last man standing, claiming the title, bragging rights, and a $57,129.97 addition to his bankroll.

Owen is something of a mixed game specialist but this result proves that he can still mix it up with hold’em elite players.

While Owen was busy bossing Event #7, the fourth event of the series, a $200,000 Super XL Mega Deep, was in full swing. Here, two British players navigated their way to the final table: “duchasp4rati” and “karna1983” who fell in seventh and third place for scores of $6,944.30 and $22,363.

Another two Brits reached the final table of the $300,000 Super XL Opening Event. Busting in ninth place was “preyondaline” who banked $3,790.80 while “Regu_1_Lator” finished in sixth place for $13,338.

Over at PokerStars, “gkb74” finished eighth in the Sunday Kickoff for $2,597.29 with “GeorgeG121,” Juan “Malaka$tyle” Pardo, “poker_man80” and Breixo “PalomoBuchon” Gonzalez all reaching the finale of the Hot $162 and winning combined scores in excess of $11,000.

In the $215 Bounty Builder, a tournament that players from the UK have enjoyed recent success in, Paul “Senterpied” Senter finished eighth for $2,588.13, “xiaoyyy” sixth for $4,602.44, and Jon “LUFCBas” Spinks fifth for $6,137.43.

The big scores kept coming with Chris “Moorman1” Moorman collecting $5,646.16 for his fifth place finish in The Weekender, Thomas “Airdraken” Clack securing a $24,154.80 payout for being the runner-up in the Big $109, and UK-based Spaniard Vicente “vicenfish” Delgado winning the Hot $162 for $20,941.23.

Charlie “JIZOINT” Combes also had an enjoyable Sunday, chopping the Super-Sized Sunday four ways before finishing second for $33,661.05, while “fulham1212” walked away with $18,169.85 after finishing third in the Sunday Supersonic.

At partypoker, the Powerfest series continued to attract big crowds, resulting in some major payouts being made. Daniel “luckyscrote” Carter won $3,328.21 by being the fourth place finisher in the $25,000 Gtd Freezeout, while Conor “LarryErbs” Beresford finished fourth in the $200,000 Gtd High Roller for $18,480.

Gavin “gavb3177” Ball was another British player reaching the final table of a Powerfest tournament, his being the $100,000 Gtd Freezeout where he fell in eighth place for a $2,458.95 addition to his bankroll.

In the $100,000 Gtd Rebuy, Chris “Therealmoorm" Moorman banked the $19,350 first place prize, and Toby “jesusneedsaces” Joyce added $6,840.37 to his lifetime winnings courtesy of an eighth place finish in the $300,000 Gtd High Roller.
