The $4 million guaranteed Super XL Series kicked off this weekend at 888poker and already we have a British champion in one of the events.
Event #7 was the $250,000 Super XL Whale, a $600 buy-in tournament attracting 535 players who created a guarantee-busting prize pool of $302,275. This princely sim was shared among the top 72 finishers, one of those being Rick “whostoclaim” Trigg who fell in eighth place for $6,801.18.
Finishing four places above Trigg was “malakiasCF” who collected $23,275.17, but it was Adam “Adamyid” Owen who was the last man standing, claiming the title, bragging rights, and a $57,129.97 addition to his bankroll.
Owen is something of a mixed game specialist but this result proves that he can still mix it up with hold’em elite players.
While Owen was busy bossing Event #7, the fourth event of the series, a $200,000 Super XL Mega Deep, was in full swing. Here, two British players navigated their way to the final table: “duchasp4rati” and “karna1983” who fell in seventh and third place for scores of $6,944.30 and $22,363.

Gavin “gavb3177” Ball was another British player reaching the final table of a Powerfest tournament, his being the $100,000 Gtd Freezeout where he fell in eighth place for a $2,458.95 addition to his bankroll.
