Sunday Briefing: Patrick Leonard Wins the Sunday Grand PLO

  • Patrick Leonard was among the big winners in the latest round of online poker Sunday majors.

There was a familiar name at the top of the leaderboard when the $1,050 Sunday Grand PLO concluded at PokerStars this Sunday, that of former world number one Patrick “pads1161” Leonard.

Leonard, who now calls Hungary home, topped a field of 188-entrants in what was a star studded field, and a stacked final table that included Jonathan “OMGjonyctt” Concepcion, Mustapha “lasagnaaammm” Kanit, Luke “lb6121” Schwartz, Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche, Ankush “pistons87” Mandavia, and Leonard’s heads-up opponent Nico “nicofellow” Villa-Lobos.

The heads-up duo struck a deal before Leonard claimed top spot and $35,429.95.

Other large scores enjoyed by British and Irish players in PokerStars’ Sunday majors include:

  • “Kashmir_uzi” – sixth-place in the Big $162 for $1,302.74
  • “chipdonkey247” – first-place in the Hot $162 for $7,090.57
  • “clancywigam” – sixth-place in the Sunday Warm-Up for $10,218.94
  • “Big Popp4” -seventh-place in the Sunday Warm-Up for $7,347.51
  • Lawrence “bigstealer” Bayley – third-place in the Big $109 for $13,366.90
  • “wozzle9” – seventh-place in the Sunday Grand for $10,162.27
  • “PatKlebs” – second-place in the Big $215 for $20,723.49
  • Jon “LUFCBas” Spinks – ninth-place in the Big $215 for $2,058.72
  • “thehushpuppy” – fifth-place in the Sunday Supersonic for $6,698.14

Over at partypoker, Matthew “eardleym” Eardley helped himself to the biggest score of his online career when he finished as runner-up in the $530 High Roller for a cool $26,918.75. Eardley wasn’t the only Brit who was quids in at partypoker on Sunday because Chris “therealmoorm” Moorman joined him on the same final table, falling in eighth-place for $4,562.50.

Also at partypoker, Jono “spyver” Beck finished in second-place in the $150,000 Gtd Main Event for $18,168 while partypoker ambassador Patrick “tiote22” Leonard bust from the $2,600 Super High Roller in sixth-place for $8,662.50.

Over to 888poker now where “BadModafoka1” finished in third-place in the $120,000 Whale for a $17,812.75 addition to his bankroll while Marc “icallyamet” Wright finished fourth in the $100,000 Mega Deep for $10,350; “Runnerboy23” and “Xorkoth” finished eighth and ninth in the same tournament for $3,105 and $1,945.80 respectively.

Another big 888poker result went to Christopher “nigdawg” Brammer who took down the $40,000 Turbo Mega Deep for $9,897.80, while Jon “FundMyMatiz” Spinks added $9,681 to his lifetime winnings by finishing second in the $50,000 Sunday Crocodile, a tournament that Damien “UveBeenStakt” Wain finished fourth in for $5,393.70.

Lastly, congratulations to Raven “ravenbyrne” Byrne and “OBigO” who finished ninth and fifth in the $80,000 Sunday Challenge for scores of $1,289.13 and $4,799.97.
