Another Aria High Roller Win for Fedor Holz, His Third of the Summer

  • It was another Aria High Roller victory for Fedor Holz, his third of the summer.

All of poker's collective eyes are typically trained on the World Series of Poker this time of year, but ARIA remains the center of the high-roller universe. This Friday saw the $25,000 High Roller XXXIV play out, and it drew 30 entries. Star players Fedor Holz and Stephen Chidwick chopped the majority of the prize money, with each banking more than $200,000.

Final Table Results

1Fedor Holz$276,012
2Stephen Chidwick$235,188
3Ivan Luca$100,800
4Tobias Reinkemeier$64,800
5Cary Katz$43,200

Incredibly, it's Holz's fifth cash in a high-roller event at ARIA already this summer, and his fourth top-two finish. He bested a field of 39 in the $25,000 High Roller XXXII on June 10 for $393,120. A week prior to that, on June 3, he won the $50,000 Super High Roller IX in a field of 40 for $637,392 after chopping with fellow German and 888poker ambassador Dominik Nitsche. Most famously, he came runner-up to another fellow German, Rainer Kempe, in the 49-player $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl for $3.5 million — his best score to date. He also finished seventh in $50,000 Super High Roller VII for $122,400 right before the Super High Roller Bowl.

That's nearly $5 million in prize money in less than a month, helping to push Holz to the top of Germany's all-time money list and the worldwide Global Poker Index rankings.

According to the updates on Poker Telegraph, Holz had the chip lead of this particular high-roller event when the final table was reached, and Andrew Lichtenberger was the unfortunate player eliminated in sixth on the money bubble.

The chop between Chidwick and Holz materialized after the former won a huge pot against Ivan Luca on a board of {8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{10-Spades}{a-Diamonds}, shoving with the {k-Hearts}{10-Spades} and getting snapped off by Luca with the {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}. The British player managed to find the {k-Diamonds} on the river to send Luca down to four big blinds. He was eliminated in short order, and Chidwick and Holz decided on an ICM chop moments later that gave Holz the win.
