Sunday Briefing: SCOOP and Powerfest create Huge Prizes

It was an action-packed Sunday this week thanks to the Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) running at PokerStars, the 888poker Super XL Series starting, and the Powerfest series at partypoker moving into its high stakes week.

Starting with the PokerStars results, which include a fourth place finish in the $2,100 no-limit hold’em 8-Max High Roller for the player known as “david owie.” He may have fired three bullets at the tournament, but doing so reaped the rewards, $82,500 to be exact.

The highest buy-in tournament of the weekend was SCOOP event 24, a $21,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em 8-Max High Roller, which attracted 143 entries and created a prize pool of $2,931,500. Sixteen places were paid, with Ludovic “ludovi333” Geilich finishing in 16th place and banking $58,630.

Swansea’s Robert “robc1978” Cowen narrowly missed out on a SCOOP victory, busting from the $215 pot-limit Mixed Omaha Turbo Zoom event in second place, a finish worth $21,814, while two UK-based Spaniard reached the final table of the $700 no-limit hold’em 6-Max ultra-deep, namely Alberto “bombuslol” Garcia and Juan “Malaka$tyle” Pardo who finished fourth and first for scores of $35,098.70 and $92,761.17. The UK’s “minusth3bear” came sixth for $15,042.30.

Other sizable scores at PokerStars this Sunday include:

  • Gavin “gavonater” O’Rourke – third in the Big $162 for $3,780.42
  • Ben “F3nix35” Dobson – third in the Big $109 for $20,018.46
  • “S.Dearman” – sixth in the Big $109 for $7,740.91
  • Spain’s “ersevi6” – first in the Hot $162 for $22,453.23
  • “revmotmotmot” – fifth in the $700 Super-Sized Progressive KO for $15,378.12
  • Kevin “torino2000” Killeen – first in the Bounty Builder for $17,933.20
  • David “davidv1213” Vamplew – seventh in the Sunday Grand for $19,110.00
  • Jamie “Ship It 2010” O’Connor – seventh in the Sunday Grand PLO 6-Max for $7,268.00
  • “MonsieurRask” – fifth in the Big $215 for $11,446.24
  • “ThinkDiffere” – sixth in Big $215 for $8,434.82
  • “carpediem200” – sixth in the Sunday Supersonic for $7,622.96
  • “sampoker2727” – second in the Hot $215 for $20,116.03
  • “PAULOSOUSA09” – fourth in the Hot $215 for $11,096.50
  • Jareth “jareth3542” East – seventh in the $215 NL Hold’em 8-Max High Roller for $13,237

Over at partypoker, newly appointed ambassador Patrick “tiote22” Leonard walked away with the $48,549.68 first place prize in the $200,000 guaranteed Powerfest High Roller only a week after winning the $50,000 Uppercut for almost $15,000.

Also at partypoker, Tom “Fugilee” Simm finished sixth in the $250,000 guaranteed for a bankroll-boosting $8,750.00.

At Full Tilt, Sam “sammy_grinder” Squid finished in eighth place in the Sunday Brawl for $599.50 with “viking47” busting from the Sunday Major in ninth place for $1,000. There was one of our players in the winner’s circle of the Turbo Multi-Hundo, a “irishdave050” who collected $2,200 for his victory.

Enjoying some success over at 888poker was “ckb4714” who banked $20,428.80 by finishing third in the $150,000 Mega Deep, the same tournament Baard “bvdahl” Dahl finished seventh for $6,384.
