Sunday Briefing: Great Results for Mighall and O’Connor

Sunday Briefing

This Sunday was a huge day for online poker tournament players because in addition to the usual array of major tournaments on PokerStars, Full Tilt, and 888poker, the partypoker Powerfest generated some massive action.

One of the highlights of the Powerfest schedule was the $500,000 guaranteed Week 3 Main Event, which attracted a field of 2,484 players. In the early hours of Monday morning, and with only five players remaining, a deal was struck that distributed more than $241,000. Among those who dealt was Leeds’ Jamie “lizzybeano” O’Connor who locked up $51,329.00 and second place in the huge event.

Also enjoying a big score at partypoker was Phil “PhilRoyal888” Mighall who won the $100,000 guaranteed tournament. Mighall turned his $530 investment into $45,141.25 and an entry to the Tournament of Champions where he could add a $5,000 VIP Las Vegas package to his winnings once the Powerfest ends.

Lastly, for partypoker at least, a shout out to Irish grinder Dara “okearney” O’Kearney who banked $14,145.50 after being part of a four-way chop in another $100,000 guaranteed Powerfest event, eventually finishing in third place.

Over at 888poker, Mighall was busy adding more winnings to his big win at partypoker. $11,676.60 was Mighall’s rewards for finishing fourth in the $100,000 Baby Whale, a $320 buy-in tournament that saw 499 players buy in. “HazardCosta” of the United Kingdom fell in ninth place in the same tournament, a finish worth $2,485.02.

Three other 888poker results are worth noting including “boonio2” whose run in the $100,000 Sunday Challenge ended in fifth place for $5,998.10. “TodoRodao69” also finished in fifth place, but in the $70,000 Crocodile for $4,894.11, and “sulynyeung” helped himself to the $5,824.50 fourth place prize in the $50,000 TURBO Mega Deep.

To PokerStars now where the previously mentioned O’Connor reached the final table of the $109 Bounty Builder. O’Connor fell short of the victory, but collected $7,007.84 for his fourth place finish, plus an additional $3,959.29 in bounties.

Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel added more funds to his bankroll, $29,783.94 to be exact, after he triumphed in the Bigger $162 while “tezmoney” bust from the $215 Sunday 2nd Chance in third place for $21,964.80.

Back in 2010, “147_star” won the Sunday Million and he almost won a second one this week. However, he had to make do with fourth place, worth $64,201.91, leaving the seemingly unstoppable Mustapha “lasagnaaammm” Kanit to win the event and its $177,229.79 first place prize.

Congratulations also to Luke “Bit2Easy” Reeves who won the Hotter $162 for $16,434.07.

Completing the Sunday Briefing for this week are the results at Full Tilt where the FTOPS drew to a close. Damien “DamoWain” Wain reached the final table of the $250,000 guaranteed FTOPS Main Event, falling in eighth place for $8,078.28 while UK-based Spaniard “dante-sp” finished as the runner-up, a finish worth $45,776.92.
