UK & Ireland Online Poker Rankings: Jamie O’Connor Breaks Into Top 10

Jamie O'Connor
  • Jamie O'Connor's fourth place in the Sunday Million sees him climb to sixth in the UK online poker rankings.

  • Martin Malone returns to the UK online poker rankings top 20.

  • John Daly wins the Hot $55 twice in a week to soar up the Irish online poker rankings.

Leeds’ Jamie O’Connor’s recent run of form has seen him break into the United Kingdom Online Poker Rankings top 10 for the first time in his career and also climb to an all-time high of 59th in the worldwide standings.

O’Connor is full of confidence at the moment thanks to hitting a purple patch where he can seemingly do no wrong. In the past month, O’Connor can brag of winning the PokerStars Big $109 for $13,406, finishing second in the Hot $55 for $9,071, being the runner-up in partypoker’s $30,000 Gtd Bounty for $7,630, and more recently he finished fourth in the PokerStars Sunday Million for a career-best score of $64,213.

Another player returning to form is Martin “molliemalone” Malone, who returns to the UK top 20 this week in 17th place. Wins in the Hot $82 ($8,996), the Big $55 ($13,166), and the Omania ($1,724) at PokerStars helped propel Malone up the table. Malone was ranked as high as 41st in the world during 2013 and if he continues to crush like he is now, there is no reason why he can’t best that rank.

Mentions have to go to Phil “philroyal888” Mighall for a trio of top results this week. Wins in the $55 NL Hold’em Hyper-Turbo ($3,402) and the $82 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper-Turbo ($3,144) were followed up by a runner-up finish in the Hot $82 ($6,175), all at PokerStars. Mighall also finished third in the Super Tuesday for a bankroll-boosting $52,787, but this came too late to be included in this week’s update.

Ireland’s John Daly Runs Hot in the PokerStars Hots

Former Irish number one John “gruaiggorm” Daly climbs to 11th in Ireland this week on the back of two victories on PokerStars “Hot” tournaments. Last Thursday, Daly walked away with the $10,529 first place prize of the Hot $55 then a couple of nights later won the same tournament again for $9,719.

Daniel “NukeTheFish!” Wilson also found himself in the winner’s circle this week after taking down the partypoker $30,000 High Roller on February 8. It was a result that netted the Dubliner $11,700 and sees him close the gap on fifth-placed Tomas “luckymo32” Geleziunas to a mere 12 points.

Wins in the Full KO for $2,155 and the 888poker $35,000 Sunday Breeze ($7,557) were enough to push Jude “j.thaddeus” Ainsworth up to seventh in Ireland. Ainsworth, a former Team PokerStars Pro, has been ranked as highly as fourth in the world, and now has just shy of $6.7 million in online tournament winnings.
