  • Kevin Killeen looks set to claim the number one spot in the Irish online poker rankings.

Chris Moorman, ranked number one in the world by on several occasions, is up to second in the United Kingdom’s rankings following a trio of excellent results this past week.

Moorman secured his 309th online poker tournament victory on January 16 when he took down the $27 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper Turbo for $3,209 at PokerStars, then followed that win up with a brace of third place finishes. The first of those came in the Sunday 2nd Chance and was worth $21,010, with the third place achieved in the $20,000 Gtd High Roller at Americas Cardroom netting the Essex lad an additional $4,785.

Several other British grinders have enjoyed the sweet taste of success this week, one of those being Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford. The youngster won an $82 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper Turbo for $4,322, finished third in the $320 NL Hold’em 6-Max for $5,421, and bust in third place in the Hot $55 for $7,756, all at PokerStars.

Another in-form player is Tom “Jabracada” Hall, who is now up to a career-high of 89th in the world thanks in part to two wins at 888poker, namely in the $30,000 Quarterback for $9,912 and the $3,500 Guaranteed Deep Stack for $904.

Returning to the UK top 20 after a one-week absence is Sheffield’s Rick “TheClaimeer” Trigg. The $10,491 won for his runner-up finish in the Big $162 and the $6,572 collected for winning the $109 NL Hold’em helped push Trigg back to 18th place in the UK.

Lastly for the UK rankings is the return to form for Jamie “EzGame89” O’Connor. The Leeds lad is now 17th in the UK standings and an all-time high of 132nd in the world following some impressive results including him winning the Big $109 for $13,406.

Killeen Continues to Close the Gap

The Irish rankings are still led by Sergio “EV4dGloryOMC” Garcia, but it appears that the days of his reign are numbered with Kevin “SuitedAcesBaby” Killeen rapidly closing in on him.

Garcia hasn’t recorded an online cash since December 27, 2015, although he’s been active on social media. A tweet on New Year’s Eve wished everyone a happy New Year and stated 2016 would be a year of change and new challenges for Garcia.

Killeen on the other hand has been grinding away as per usual. While he hasn’t enjoyed any massive scores this past week, it is only a matter of time that he catches Garcia, especially if the latter continues to be absent from the virtual felt.

Limerick’s “Kursplunk” has had a couple of dozen cashes over the past seven days including a third place finish in partypoker’s $50,000 guaranteed Uppercut worth $5,250. He also won the $109 NL Hold’em on PokerStars for $6,444, but that result came too late to be considered in his points tally this week.

Someone enjoying some heat is Conor “ccoonnoorr” O’Driscoll who won five tournaments in the space of four days. O’Driscoll’s victories came in:

  • The Big €50 at worth $1,498
  • Another Big €50 at worth $1,666
  • The $1,000 Guaranteed Turbo at 888poker worth $267
  • The $2,000 Gtd 6-Max Turbo at partypoker worth $728
  • The $11+R NL Hold’em at PokerStars worth $1,963

There was also a hat trick of wins for David “Laois Hammer” Scully, who emerged victorious in the Hot €50 ($1,542) and the Sunday Re-Entry ($4,966) at, and in the $4,000 Gtd at partypoker ($1,251).
