Sunday Briefing: Saitek00 Chops Sunday Million for $135K

Sunday Briefing
  • Kevin Killeen wins the partypoker $150,000 High Roller.

  • Roberto Romanello finishes second in the PokerStars Sunday 500.

The first set of Sunday Majors of 2016 took place on January 3 and players calling the United Kingdom and Ireland home kicked off the new year in style.

A total of 6,749 players in the PokerStars Sunday Million created a prize pool of $1,349,800 and a huge slice of that is now in the account of Southampton’s “Saitek00” thanks to him being involved in a four-way chop that netted him a career-best score of some $135,099.52.

Prior to this massive result, the 28-year-old had lifetime online tournament winnings of slightly more than $480,000 but has now smashed through the $600,000 barrier.

Former European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague champion Roberto “” Romanello started 2016 as he means to go on with a runner-up finish in the Sunday 500. The popular Welshman narrowly missed out on the victory, but the $40,635.00 he collected should help to soften that particular blow.

Ireland’s Cathal “shinerrr” Shine joined Romanello at the final table, falling in fourth place for $22,575.00.

Over in the Sunday Supersonic, “Kashmir_uzi” gunned down the majority of the opposition before busting in third place for a $25,737.41 score, while Tom “hitthehole” Middleton collected $10,548.70 and $6,990.20 in the $100K Bounty Builder tournament.

Still at PokerStars where Rick “ThEcLaiMEer” Trigg finished eighth in the Hotter $162 for $2,468.40, and where “RozTheRipper” finished fifth in the Bigger $109 for a cool $11,016.00.

There was also a solid result at PokerStars’ sister site, Full Tilt, where Martins Adeniya finished 4/269 in the Sunday Major to add $5,014.16 to his bankroll.

Partypoker was a happy hunting ground for Irish players this Sunday judging by the excellent results enjoyed by those hailing from the Emerald Isle.

Kevin “THEDREAMER77” Killeen walked away with the title of the $150,000 Gtd High Roller champion, an accolade that also came with $27,780.00 in cash, while Killeen’s fellow countryman Daniel “xxPartyboy69xx” Wilson finished third in the same tournament for $13,950.00.

In the $150,000 Gtd Main Event, Frank “Denman98” Lillis helped himself to the $5,008.25 seventh place prize, a result that should see him climb up the Irish online poker rankings when they’re updated later this week.

Finally, some excellent results at 888poker to complete this week’s edition of the Sunday Briefing.

The player known as “youler” is now $33,344.88 richer thanks to winning the $150,000 Whale, a tournament that Andy “wiisssppppaa” Taylor finished sixth in for $7,582.30. Another player enjoying success at 888poker was “carpediem14” who collected $7,529.60 for his fifth-place finish in the $120,000 Mega Deep.

Wolverhampton’s Alex “wardy6912” Ward began his year with a five-figure score courtesy of winning the $50,000 Turbo Mega Deep for $11,779.20, with Matas “SeRG3nT” Cimbolas finishing third in the same event for $6,508.80.

Completing this articles is a one-two-three finish for players sporting the Union Jack in the $70,000 Sunday Crocodile. “MOI_est_JEAN” came third for $8,047.80 while “purpleturtle” bust in second place for $10,927.65. The winner was “mpompos6” whose victory netted him $14,912.10.
