Almost 200 players turned out for Day 1b of the 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Blackpool Main Event on Friday, taking the total attendance to 275 and smashing the £200,000 guarantee by £75,000. Reyaaz Mulla not only bagged up the Day 1b chip lead, but he now leads the 104 players who return for Saturday’s Day 2.
2015 GUKPT Blackpool Main Event Day 1b Top 10 Chip Counts
Mulla finished fifth in a £300+£30 buy-in side event at the GUKPT Blackpool festival earlier this week and won £2,450 for his efforts. Now he is on course for a much larger prize thanks to starting the £1,000+£90 buy-in Main Event as well as he has.
A massive pot went Mulla’s way as play winded down for the night. Mulla made an oversized raise to 3,500 and was three-bet to 8,500 by Ross Greig. Danny Tran responded with an all-in four-bet of 55,000, Mulla five-bet all-in for 90,000 and Greig called.
Those pocket kings held on a board to reduce Greig to 80,000 chips, bust Tran and send Mulla soaring to the top of the chip counts.
John Ventre, winner of the 2013 WPTN UK London Main Event, is another familiar face to start his GUKPT Blackpool quest off well. Ventre bagged up 191,000 chips at the close of play, with the reigning GUKPT Goliath champion Miikka Toikka ending Day 1b third in chip courtesy of his 167,900 stack.
There are some big names who bagged up top 10 stacks, too.
Yucel “Mad Turk” Eminoglu (113,600), Paul Jackson (102,700) and Owain Carey (82,000), while the likes of Yiannis Liperis (75,400), Matt Davenport (73,800), Fraser MacIntyre (72,100), Joe Beevers (65,600), Waheed “Wadey” Ashraf (50,800), Charles Chattha (39,000), Joe Laming (27,000), Shola Akindele-Deadman (21,400), Brett Angell (17,000), Simon Deadman (15,000) and Lee Taylor (14,400) also progressed.
Day 2 kicks off at 1:00 pm and continues until another nine 60-minute levels are completed. By the time this happens, the money bubble should have burst and we’ll be one step closer to crowning the 2015 GUKPT Blackpool champion.
