Sunday Briefing: Kevin Killeen Wins the $150,000 Whale
Ireland’s Kevin Killeen had himself a profitable Sunday online grind thanks to him taking down 888poker’s flagship tournament, the $150,000 Whale.
Killeen, playing under the alias “SusanBoyle1,” was one of 316 players to part company with the $600 buy-in, helping to generate a $178,540 prize pool. The Irishman, who finished third in the 2014 European Poker Tour London Main Event, claimed the $34,547.49 first place prize in the Whale tournament, which happens to be the largest online cash of his career.
His victory was made all the more sweeter by the fact he had to contend with some superb opponents at the final table. Australian crusher Jonathan “Monster_Dong” Karamalikis finished fifth for $10,176.78 with Patrick “d1sclosure” Leonard busting one place higher for a $14,729.55 score.
Other players from the UK and Ireland who helped themselves to cash at 888poker this Sunday include Greg “seeyouante91” Chambers who finished sixth in the $50,000 Turbo Mega Deep for $2,592.00 and “walter83” who was fifth in the same tournament for $3,340.80.
Over at partypoker, Stephen “woody1234321” Woodhead helped himself to the $10,504.00 third place prize in the $100,000 guaranteed High Roller, while at Full Tilt “gatshu” finished fourth in the Sunday Brawl for $4,083.84 with “withesark” busting from the Turbo Multi-Hundo in fifth place for a $1,500.00 addition to his bankroll.
At PokerStars, Rupert “ElRupert” Elder reached two final tables. One came in The Bigger $162 where he finished sixth for $7,797.30 (David Vamplew came ninth in that tournament for $2,131.92), with Elder’s second finale coming in the Sunday 500 where he scooped the $10,720.00 seventh place prize.
Shoutout too to Northern Ireland’s “Rimlog” who finished one place behind Elder in the Bigger $162 for a $5,823.30 score.
One of the biggest scores of the weekend went to “aiamolinbaby” thanks to him winning the Sunday Supersonic for a cool $47,339.03, while “5pathic” helped himself to a $15,750.00 score by finishing third in the Sunday Kickoff, and Dan “Heald007” Heald $5,812.50 for coming fifth in the Sunday 6-Max.
Finally for this week’s round-up, a doff of the cap to “FiRsTPrDaToR” who chopped the Bigger $55 heads-up for a cool $21,034.32 and to Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel who was the runner-up in the Hotter $55 for $14,950.78.
