The Full Tilt International Poker Open (IPO) Dublin Main Event kicked off on Wednesday afternoon, marking the first time the IPO has been in the Irish capital since joining forces with the online poker giant that is Full Tilt.
A total of 149 players exchanged $218+$32 for 30,000 tournament chips while registration was open, and only 43 of those made it through to Day 2 with their chip stack intact.
2015 Full Tilt IPO Dublin Main Event Day 1a Top 10 Chip Counts
|3||Werner de Haan||267,400|
|8||Thomas van Leeuwen||135,000|
Alan White fared the best on the opening flight, turning that 30,000 starting stack into a tournament leading pile worth 297,300. While there is a long, long way to go in this tournament, White must secretly be confident of at least reaching the money places after accumulating such a colossal stack.
Two other players bagged up more than 250,000 chips and are going to be ones to watch on Day 2. Both of these high fliers hail from the Netherlands and will be hoping to return home with some moolah to show for their efforts.
Werner de Haan finished Day 1a with 267,400 and his fellow countryman, Rien Wijermars, 286,000.
Some players took advantage of being able to fire a second bullet in this event and it is a strategy that worked out for Lorraine McGarry. After dusting off her initial stack, McGarry dug into her purse and produced another buy-in. It proved to be a solid decision on her part because she turned this second stack into 179,100 chips, enough to see her end the night in fifth place.
As you’d expect from a tournament held in Dublin, there were plenty of Irish players in the Day 1a field. The likes of David Masters (90,200), Declan Connolly (75,000), and Ireland-based Lithuanian Tomas Geleziunas (43,000) made it through to Day 2, although David O’Kelly, Sean Foley, Andrew Sweeney, and Mick Graydon are going to need to take a leaf out of McGarry’s book if they are to play any further part in this event.
Day 1b commences at 2:00pm on Thursday afternoon with Day 1c starting at the same time on Friday. There is a fourth and final flight scheduled for the slightly earlier time of 12:00pm on Saturday, so there’s still plenty of time to head to the Regency Airport Hotel and get in on the 2015 Full Tilt IPO Dublin action.
