2015 Genting Poker Series Heads to a Buoyant Sheffield

2015 Genting Poker Series
  • Sheffield has featured in all seasons of the Genting Poker Series.

  • The 10th and final leg of the Genting Poker Series sees the popular tour head to the steel city of Sheffield.

The city of Sheffield is bursting with pride at the moment thanks to Sheffield Wednesday’s three-nil demolition of Arsenal in the League Cup earlier this week and now they have a major poker festival to look forward to in November as the Genting Poker Series (GPS) heads to Genting Club Sheffield for the 10th and final leg of the 2015 tour.

Sheffield has been a mainstay on the GPS since its creation in 2012. Hasmukh Khodiyara won the inaugural Sheffield leg, outlasting a field of 562 to claim £50,000 in cash.

The following year, Sheffield was the chosen city for the GPS Grand Final and saw the main event’s buy-in increased to £800+£80. While this reduced the attendance to 262 entries, the prize pool remained similar to the lower buy-in event in 2012, meaning Richard Milner walked away with £40,086 for his win.

Last year, James Parker won the Sheffield leg for £22,120 although the South African’s prize was diluted due to him being part of a three-handed deal involving Richard Kellett (£24,855) and Ali Mallu (£31,425).

2014 also saw the last of the Sheffield-based Grand Finals, a tournament won by Mark Evans for £54,060.

That main event, which costs £400+£40 to enter, has an online leg on the evening of Wednesday 2 November, with the live Day 1s held on Thursday 3 November and Friday 4 November, with the champion crowned on Sunday 6 December.

In addition to the main event, the GPS is playing host to a number of side events including a pot limit Omaha event, a Mix Max, no limit Hold’em turbo and even a cocktail making course for those wanting some time away from the felt.
