Dublin, Ireland has been a hotbed of poker activity during September and the action is set to continue as French outfit Winamax heads to the Regency Hotel in the Irish capital for its popular Winamax Poker Open festival.

The first of two starting flights of the €550 buy-in Main Event kicked off at 12:00pm on Thursday 24 September, with Day 1b commencing at the same time on Friday 25 September. While there is no guaranteed prize pool for this particular tournament, UK & Ireland PokerNews has learned that an estimated 1,000 players are expected to buy in across the two starting flight, which would make for a substantial pot to play for that’s in the region of €500,000.

Players in the Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event start with a stack of 20,000 and play to 45-minute levels, which increase to 60-minutes on Day 2 and Day 3. Should they manage to dust off those 20,000 chips, players can re-enter once per starting flight so long as they do so during the first six levels of play.

In addition to the WPO Dublin Main Event, there are several side events for players to get stuck into and if previous Winamax events are anything to go by they should be bags of fun with plenty of the famous Irish craic keeping everyone entertained.

When the Winamax Poker Open took place in Dublin in September 24, 994 entries were processed and a €485,569 prize pool created. Ireland’s Tom Kitt was the last player standing from the predominately French field, and his reward was a career-best live score of some €75,000.

Plenty of Ireland’s top stars should be present at the Regency Hotel as they attempt to follow in Kitt’s footsteps, so stay tuned to UK & Ireland PokerNews throughout the Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event to see if any of them can emulate Kitt’s excellent victory.
