UK Online Poker Rankings: Rupert Elder Returns to the Top 20

Rupert Elder

  • Daniel Wilson's Sunday 500 victory propels him up the online poker rankings

  • Phil Mighall enters the UK top 10

  • Upcoming WCOOP should give the rankings a major shake-up

With the Estrellas Poker Tour and European Poker Tour Barcelona festivals attracted massive crowds of players, many of whom are among the best online grinders the UK & Ireland has to offer, last week was a relatively quiet week at the virtual felt.

That said, some of the wizards who call the UK & Ireland home managed to help themselves to decent scores during the past seven days and those scores have helped push them up the online poker rankings.

Returning to the UK’s top 20 this week is the former EPT Sanremo champion, Rupert Elder. Known as “ElRupert” on PokerStars, Elder won the $22 NLHE $10K Guaranteed and the $22 NLHE 1R1A for $2,726 and $2,787 before finishing in second place in the $27 NLHE Turbo Progressive Super-Knockout for $2,440.

Sandwiched between those PokerStars results were a trio of impressive shows at 888poker. Elder was the runner-up in the $8,000 Tornado for $1,480 and the $7,500 Thunder 6-Max for $1,610 before winning the $25,000 Sunday Monsoon for $6,656. Elder now occupies 18th place in the UK standings.

Continuing to climb is Sam “TheSquid” Grafton whose purple patch has seen him lifted into seventh place in UK rankings. Grafton won the PokerStars Big $162 for $12,349 then finished ninth in it the following night before finishing fifth in the 888poker $75,000 Sunday Challenge for $4,654.

Phil “philroyal888” Mighall enters the top 10 this week thanks to his third place finish in the 888poker $50,000 Volcano, a result that netted him $10,888, while Paul “Fold Machiii” Dando jumps to 16th in the UK on the back of his win in the $109 NLHE Turbo ($5,542) and his fourth place in the Sunday Rebuy ($15,084) both at PokerStars.

Lastly for the UK, a nod to Rick “TheClaimer” Trigg who is putting in some phenomenal volume in the run up to the World Championships Of Online Poker (WCOOP) and that volume has seen a number of top three finishes for the Sheffield-based grinder. Some of Trigg’s results from the past week include:

  • 1st place in the partypoker $5,000 Daily Major for $1,356

Daniel Wilson Climbs to an all-time Career High

While the Irish rankings are being dominated by Spain’s Sergio “EV4dGloryOMC” Garcia, a grinder from Galway is trying his hardest to knock him off his lofty perch and claim the number one spot for himself.

Daniel Wilson, best-known as “NukeTheFish!” his PokerStars moniker, has been one of the most consistent performers this year and has enjoyed some superb results at the virtual felt. Wilson now has almost $1.6 million in online tournament winnings, an impressive total helped by his brace of victories in the last set of Sunday Majors.

Wilson finished on top in the Full Tilt Double Deuce for an $8,652 addition to his bankroll and followed that up by winning the PokerStars Sunday 500 for a cool $37,543.48 – Wilson’s second largest score. These latest wins have helped push Wilson to 66th in the worldwide PocketFives rankings and we wouldn’t be even slightly surprised if you see him even higher when the next rankings update is completed.

Cathal “shinerrr” Shine bagged a four-figure score by finishing seventh in the 888poker $150,000 Whale for $5,250, while Dan “DatWillDoPig” Rankin finished third in the $51 NLHE Hyper Turbo ($2,912) and second in The Hot $75 ($6,012) both at PokerStars.

Also in the winner’s circle this week was Dara “Doke” O’Kearney who took down the Hot $55 for $8,667 while a brace of PokerStars victories for Dino “dinos622” Sabatini, namely in the $27 NLHE Turbo Knockout ($2,064) and the $11 NLHE Action Hour ($1,419) helped push him back into the Irish top 20.

Lastly, a doff of the cap to Conor “ccoonnoorr” O’Driscoll who has been tearing up the low-stakes seen, showing you don’t have to invest large chunks of money in order to be ranked highly by your peers. O’Driscoll’s recent results include:

  • 1st place in the Storm for $1,352
  • 1st place in the Full KO for $1,915
  • 2nd place in the PokerStars $5.50 NLHE 2R1A for $1,208
  • 3rd place in the PokerStars $11 NLHE Turbo Progressive Super-KO for $1,380
  • 3rd place in the partypoker $3,000 Daily Major for $542
  • Four other final table finishes
