Dusk Till Dawn and partypoker today announced the launch of the Grand Prix Poker Tour, a series of 12 tournaments taking place online at partypoker and at football stadiums around the UK.

The Grand Prix Poker Tour is aimed squarely at the grassroots level of poker thanks to a number of features including each stop’s affordable £60+£10 buy-in. Despite the low entry fee, each of the first three stops boasts of a £250,000 guaranteed prize pool, meaning each leg needs to attract more than 4,000 players.

Another feature that is appealing to recreational players is that each of the multiple Day 1s are played as a freezeout, which means players with larger bankrolls cannot fire multiple bullets on each Day 1 until they progress. Dusk Till Dawn owner, Rob Yong, decided on this format in an attempt to create a level playing field for those competing.

Speaking exclusively to UK & Ireland PokerNews, Yong said:

“This Grand Prix Poker Tour is about re-vitalising grass roots poker in the UK. The new format reflects this, with each Day 1 being a freezeout and players who choose to play multiple Day 1's automatically forfeiting their previous Day 2 stack. This levels the playing field but means we will have to work much harder to meet the huge guarantees.”

Player do have the opportunity to play multiple starting flights, but doing so forfeits any stack they may have progressed to Day 2 with, a vast improvement on the “best stack forwards” format that many live tournaments employ.

Ultimate in flexibility

Another feature of the Grand Prix Poker Tour that Yong and his team have devised is the so-called Players Choice Day 1s. These starting flights are played online at partypoker and any player who progresses to Day 2 via the Players Choice Day 1s can take their stack with them to any future live leg in the next 12-months, something Yong says gives his players ultimate flexibility as it allows them to plan ahead around work and family commitments.

As if a £250,000 prize pool for a £70 investment wasn’t value enough in its own right, the popular Golden Chips promotion returns for the inaugural tour.

Players gain a Golden Chip if they win either of the $5.50 or $22 buy-in Daily UK Majors that run each day at partypoker at 7:00pm. Any player progressing to the final table while in possession of a Golden Chip wins a dream holiday while a brand new Porsche, worth more than £40,000, is awarded to anyone who has a Golden Chip in their hand when they win a Grand Prix Poker Tour Main Event.

In an attempt to continue attracting players to each stop, there is a WPT £100,000 Leaderboard that sees the top 100 performers across the season win seats to the World Poker Tour UK events.

Reaching Day 2 on any of the Grand Prix Poker Tour sees players receive WPT Rewards. The top 30 WPT Rewards earners each win a £2,200 WPT UK Main Event seat for use in 2016, while players in positions 31 through 100 are given a 2016 WPT500 UK seat worth £550.

Holding a partypoker Account is a Must

Due to the location of the various stops, which includes Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge, Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Leeds United’s Elland Road, all buy-ins and subsequent payouts are made via players’ partypoker accounts.

Buy-ins are accepted in cash or via a $109 DTD Ticket that players can win in the aforementioned Daily UK Majors (in addition to the cash in the prize pool) and via qualifier tournaments starting as low as $0.01.
