Mega Poker Series
  • Only 56 players turned out for Day 1b of the Mega Poker Series Dublin Main Event

  • David Lappin among those bagging up a big stack

  • Forty players return for Day 2

After a bitterly disappointing turnout for Day 1a of the Mega Poker Series (MPS) Dublin Main Event, where only seven players bought in, all eyes were on the attendance figures for Day 1b, the final starting flight. By the time registration ended, 56 players had bought in for €500 and 38 of those progressed to Thursday’s Day 2.

Spain’s Francisco Fernandez had a great day at the felt on Day 1b, ending the night with a tournament leading stack of 346,500 chips. Fernandez has two previous cashes on the MPS circuit, one in Nottingham during 2012 and the other coming in Montenegro in 2013.

Also flying high is Aaron Manley, a local player who has a string of cashes at Dublin’s Village Green, most of them being final table appearances. After bagging up 249,000 chips in this event, Manley should be quietly confident of yet another deep run.

The most recognisable name in the top 10 chip counts is that of David Lappin. The Dubliner has more than $730,000 in online tournament winnings and an additional $295,000 from his live tournament exploits and is one to watch going into Day 2 of the MPS Dublin Main Event where only 40 players remain.

Mike “DaBookie” Hill finds himself armed with 109,300 chips, enough to see him start 21st when play resumes. Hill bubbled a live satellite to the Main Event and looks to have made amends by navigating his way through Day 1b proceedings to find himself in the middle of the pack.

Irish stars Andy Black (134,600), Nicholas Newport (72,500) and Cathal Shine (38,600) also progressed.

Starting today and running alongside the MPS is the Redbet LIVE Main Event. Kicking off at 7:00pm this evening, the Redbet LIVE Dublin Main Event costs €350 to enter and sees players start their quest for glory with 50,000 chips and play to a 40-minute clock.
