UK & Ireland Online Poker Rankings: Phil Mighall Flying High

Phil Mighalll
  • Christopher Brammer still on top in the UK online poker rankings

  • Spain's Sergio Garcia crushing in Ireland

  • Paul Dando enters the UK top 20 for the first time

With the Estrellas Poker Tour and the European Poker Tour Barcelona festival drawing in record-breaking crowds, it is easy to forget that some of the UK and Ireland’s best poker continued to crush the online poker world.

Still at the top of the rankings in the UK is Christopher “NigDawG” Brammer who built on his massive $106,780 win in the August 11 Super Tuesday by finishing fourth in the $109 Sunday Rebuy for $14,040, also at PokerStars. Brammer now has a near 360-point cushion between himself and second-placed Patrick “pleno1” Leonard.

Ben “jenbizzle” Jones is closing in on a career-high worldwide ranking following his third place finish in the PokerStars Bigger $55 that netted him $14,591. Jones is up to seventh in the UK and 83rd in the world, with his loftiest position being 73rd during 2014.

Up four places to 12th in the UK this week is Phil “philroyall888” Mighall who is now knocking on the door of the worldwide top 100 thanks to winning the $30,000 Gtd Super High Roller at partypoker for $9,920 and then following that up with a victory in the Full Tilt Fat Tuesday for $10,436.

Also climbing this week is Andy “wiisssppppaa” Taylor who now finds himself occupying 13th place in the UK. Taylor has hit a little purple patch that has seen him collect eight four-figure scores in the past week including wins in the 888poker Crocodile ($4,463) and the PokerStars $27 NL Hold’em Turbo Knockout ($4,167) in addition to a third place in the partypoker $100,000 Gtd High Roller ($10,100).

Finally, for the UK at least, a mention of Paul Dando who climbs into the top 20 for the first time. Dando, known as “fold machiii” at PokerStars, has more than $1.22 million in online tournament winnings helped by almost 100 outright victories. Dando is now 199th in the world, his highest-ever rank.

Cathal Shine Hits Form

The Irish standings are much the same as last week with Sergio “EV4dGloryOMC” Garcia continuing to dominate proceedings. However, it is Cathal “shinerrr” Shine who impressed the most over the past seven days.

Shine finished third in the Nigh On Stars for $2,517 and then second at the same site in the Hot €100 for $1,684. The grinder from Kerry, then won the Full Tilt Friday Night Fight for $2,400 and the Titanbet Poker €25,000 Grand Tuesday for $6,919.

A brace of third place finishes for Kevin “SuitedAcesBaby” Killeen helped improve him to seventh place this week. Killeen finished third in the Hot $75 for $4,300 and the $27 Saturday Eliminator for $3,399 both at PokerStars before winning a $109 NL Hold’em 6-Max rebuy for $6,364 although that result came too late to be added to this week’s total.

Lastly, Andrew “UlDuffer” Sweeney returned to the top 10 after his fourth place Super Tuesday finish (for $37,360) was added to his points tally.
