UK & Ireland Online Poker Rankings: Ludovic Geilich Climbs to Career High

Ludovic Geilich
Sharelines
  • Ludovic Geilich now ranked 177th in the world for online poker tournaments

  • Spain's Sergio Garcia continues to dominate in Ireland

  • Stephen Woodhead is knocking on the door of a UK top 10 spot

Ludovic Geilich hitting a rich vein of form was one of the highlights of the past week, form that has seen him soar up both the United Kingdom and worldwide online poker rankings.

The Glaswegian, famed for his loose-aggressive approach to the game, cashed 28 times during the past seven days with nine of those cashes resulting in final table appearances, two of which ended in outright victories.

The Glaswegian, famed for his loose-aggressive approach to the game, cashed 28 times during the past seven days with nine of those cashes resulting in final table appearances, two of which ended in outright victories.

Geilich’s wins came in the $109 NL Hold’em Turbo Progressive Super-Knockout ($5,178) and the $82 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper Turbo ($6,581) at PokerStars with other highlights including a brace of runner-up finishes in the $265 NL Hold’em Knockout ($3,468) and the $82 Weekly PL Omaha ($1,632) both at PokerStars.

Now ranked 20th in the UK by PocketFives.com, Geilich has climbed to a career-high of 177th in the world and now has more than $1 million in online tournament cashes.

This week’s top 20 has another familiar name returning to it, that of “carpediem20.” A runner-up finish in last Monday’s $530 Monday PL Omaha 6-Max netted him $10,413 and 160.93 leader board points and following that up by winning The Big $109 for $15,222 and 290.00 points has lifted him into 19th place in the UK rankings.

Knocking on the door of the top 10 is Stephen “woody1234321” Woodhead who, like Geilich, is in great form going into the final quarter of 2015. Some of the highlights of Woodhead’s past week include:

  • First place in the Full Tilt Five-O for $1,325
  • First place in the PokerStars $82 NL Omaha Hi/Lo 6-Max for $832
  • First place in the 888poker $5,000 Lightning 6-Max for $2,070

Gavin O’Rourke Banks a Five-Figure Score

It was a relatively quiet week for the Irish contingent although there were a number of highlights to report on.

Long-reigning number one, Spain’s Sergio “EV4dGloryOMC” Garcia has been one of the most consistent performers over the past six months and he’s showing no signs of slowing down just yet. A win in the 888poker SHOT 6-Max Super Turbo for $1,648 was followed up by a sting of deep runs including one that ended with a runner-up finish in the PokerStars $109 NL Hold’em Sunday Rebuy for $26,934.

Another player helping himself to a five-figure score this week was Gavin “gavonator” O’Rourke who now finds himself in 14th place in the Irish standings. O’Rourke won the PokerStars $109 NL Hold’em 1R1A on Sunday and walked away with $17,157.

Other notable cashes were had by Kevin “SuitedAcesBaby” Killeen who claimed $5,776 and $6,504 by finishing fourth in the $265 NL Hold’em Knockout and 11th in the Super Tuesday at PokerStars, but the latter will not be added to his points tally until the next weekly update.

Michael “BIGMICKG” Graydon has been putting together some strong results including runner-up finishes in the $55 NL Hold’em Trubo Rebuy Big Antes ($1,564) and $82 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper ($3,617) at PokerStars, while Dara “Doke” O’Kearney finished as runner-up in the PokerStars Nightly $162 for $6,705 on Tuesday, a result that will add points to his total when the next update is complete.
