Day 1b of Season 12 of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona Main Event saw an incredible number of players exchange €5,300 for 30,000 tournament chips and the chance to become an EPT champion. A total of 1,214 entries were processed, taking the total attendance to 1,673 and earning this stop the title of the largest-ever EPT Main Event.

Among that record number of entrants were more than 100 players who call the United Kingdom or Ireland home and we’re delighted to report that almost two-thirds of them progressed to Wednesday’s Day 2.

Knocking on the door of the top 10 at the close of play on Day 1b was Sin Melin. The popular Londoner bagged up 155,800 chips as the curtain came down on the day’s proceedings to earn her the title of best place Brit and she’ll now be quietly confident of building on this great start and securing what would be her first EPT cash.

Melin returns on Day 2 surrounded by her fellow Brits including the likes of Neil Van Der Merwe (131,400), Emran Hussain (119,800), Alfie Adam (118,100) and Steven Warburton (114,000) who all bagged up six-figure stacks.

Also progressing are a host of British stars including Ben Jones (99,700), Niall Farrell (84,400), Craig McCorkell (79,500), Ben Heath (64,400), Alex Goulder (37,700), Steve Watts (29,000), Ben Dobson (24,500), Martins Adeniya (9,300) and Alex Lindop (8,000).

Ireland’s Jude Ainsworth finished his Day 1b with the exact same number of chips as Melin and was the best placed Irishman. Joining Ainsworth on Day 2 are his fellow countrymen Peter Murphy (70,300), David Lappin (61,200), Dermot Blain (37,500), Gavin O’Rourke (36,100) and a handful of others.
