  • August is packed full of live poker action

  • Sky Poker 6-Max UK Poker Championships heads to Dusk Till Dawn on August 19

  • PokerStars UKIPT Bristol set to be a spectacular five-day festival

The seventh month of 2015 is almost over and August is approaching faster than NASA’s New Horizons probe did en route to the dwarf planet of the Kuiper belt, Pluto.

August is traditionally a quiet month in the online poker world thanks to it being the summer months, but the live poker circuit, particularly in the United Kingdom and Ireland, is busier than ever this August with some fantastic events to compete in.

The start of the new month kicks off with the 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Leeds festival, the partypoker WPT National London festival and the Dusk Till Dawn Deepstack all drawing to a close by August 2.

Then there's the inaugural Pokerfest Live at DTD, which we'll look at in more detail this week.

UKIPT Bristol consists of no fewer than 12 events with buy-ins ranging from £100+£10 up to the £2,000+£200 High Roller, although it is the £700+£70 buy-in UKIPT Bristol Main Event that is the focal point of the five-day festival.

The largest live event, in terms of number of entrants expected to turn out for it, is the 2015 edition of the GUKPT Goliath. Upwards of 4,000 entries are expected to be taken in the £100+£20 buy-in event, which features a £250,000 unconditional guaranteed prize pool.

Keep your schedules free from August 19 through to August 23 if you’re a fan of short-handed live poker tournaments because Dusk Till Dawn is hosting the latest instalment of the Sky Poker 6-Max UK Poker Championships. Last year’s edition of this exciting format was a roaring success, just ask Leigh Wiltshire who walked away with £110,000 after being the last of 500 players standing.

Two other major online poker sites have a brace of events taking place in August, the first being BoyleSports who head to the Maldron Hotel Tallaght in Dublin between August 14-16 for its Poker Summer Series and then to the Regency Airport Hotel, also Dublin, on August 29 for a One Day Classic in conjunction with D4 Events.

Full Tilt’s International Poker Open (IPO) sets sail for Newcastle (August 21-23) and London (August 28-30) and brings with it its $250 buy-in Main Event and a handful of side events. Satellites to both IPOs are available at Full Tilt where buy-ins start as low as $0.10.

Rounding out August’s action is the eagerly anticipated Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) Welsh Amateur Poker Championships in Cardiff on August 28-20 and the WSOP Sussex Championships at the Rendezvous Casino in Brighton on August 30; the latter runs through until September 6.

Be sure to check online for satellites to these live August events and don’t forget to sign up to the sites via UK & Ireland PokerNews for some superb welcome bonuses and exclusive promotions.
