It may not have the glitz and glam of Las Vegas but Luton is a special place for poker players. Over the years, dozens of players have won major events there and gone on to become stars of the game, something the winner of the upcoming Genting Poker Series (GPS) Mini Luton Main Event hopes will happen to them.
The six-day festival begins today with a £50+£7 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event that has five seats to the eagerly anticipated Main Event included in the £5,000 guarantee. This tournament, which kicks off at 7:00 p.m, awards at least five seats to the eagerly anticipated Main Event.
Featuring a £200+£20 buy-in and a £30,000 guarantee, the GPS Mini Luton Main Event gives players the opportunity to win big for a relatively small investment. When the GPS last ran a Mini Main Event, a crowd of 277 players descended on Liverpool and created a guarantee-busting prize pool of £55,400. Matty Stitt walked away with the title of GPS Mini Liverpool champion and the princely sum of £14,450. You can read more about Stitt’s victory here.
The first non-Hold’em tournament on the Luton schedule is a £50+£7 Pot Limit Omaha event on Wednesday. For their buy-in, players receive 20,000 chips, play to a 25-minute clock and Genting guarantees the prize pool will be at least £2,500.
Main event players enter the fray on Wednesday, too, with the first of four starting flights. Day 1a takes place online at Genting Poker with Days 1b-1d taking place at the Genting Casino Luton on Skimpot Road.
