UK & Ireland Online Poker Rankings: Kanit Claims UK Top Spot

Mustapha Kanit

The United Kingdom has a new number one in its online poker rankings and by quite some margin, too. London-based Italian, Mustapha “lasagnaaammm” Kanit has soared to the top of the UK standings and now has more than 750 point advantage over second placed Chris “moorman1” Moorman.

Kanit’s profile used to list some of his results from Italy-facing sites which made him ineligible for PocketFives’ ranking system. He has since removed these and thanks to winning the Full Tilt FTOPS Main Event for $239,400 on March 29 and then taking down the 2015 Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) Main Event at PokerStars for a quite ridiculous $1,304,720.00, Kanit is now ranked first in the UK.

The majority of the UK’s top 20 ranked players have swapped online poker for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, but some of them are still on home soil and able to continue with the online grind.

One such player is Andy “andyh26” Holman who is up to seventh this week after helping himself to the $3,848 runner-up prize in a $215 NL Hold’em Turbo Re-Entry tournament and winning The Hot $44 for $8,292 both at PokerStars.

There’s also a new face on the leader board, that of “BigBangJr.” Looking at this player’s profile, it appears he’s a mid-stakes grinder who has been playing online tournaments since 2013. It’s also apparent that he’s another of the Spanish contingent to head to the UK in order to continue playing online poker on the biggest stage. We will keep our eye on him in the coming weeks.

Dara Davey Returns to the Irish Top 10

The Irish standings are much the same as previous weeks with Spain’s Sergio “EV4dGloryOMC” Garcia still being the man to catch and the chasing pack consisting of the like of Jude “j.thaddeus” Ainsworth, Cathal “shinerrr” Shine and Kevin “SuitedAcesBaby” Killeen, the latter starting June well with a $9,870 score in the PokerStars Big $55 where he finished as runner-up.

One Irishman in ridiculous form right now is Daragh “daragh99” Davey. Since May 31, Davey has 21 cashes to his name and 11 of those have resulted in final table appearances. Amazingly, Davey turned five of those final tables into victories with him winnings:

  • PokerStars $109 NL Hold’em for $1,929
  • PokerStars Sunday Kickoff for $20,759
  • Full KO 6-Max for $1,905
  • PokerStars $27 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper for $3,769
  • 888poker $8,000 Breeze for $4,732

A doff of the cap also to Karl “chips12345” Curry who won The Hotter $44 at PokerStars on May 31 for $15,182 which happens to be the fourth largest online score of his career.
