The UKIPT Heads To Marbella From June 15-21

Former champions Ludovic Geilich and Rodrigo Espinosa

It is not only Las Vegas, Nevada where the tournament poker action is as hot as the weather because in the next few days the latest leg of the PokerStars United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) kicks off in Marbella, Spain.

Once again the UKIPT is combining with the Estrellas Poker Tour (ESPT) to create an action-packed, week-long festival of poker than runs from June 15 through to June 21.

The busy tournament schedule features a number of different variants including the popular Win The Button, nightly turbos, live satellites, pot limit Omaha, a High Roller and the showpiece of the UKIPT Marbella festival the €1,000+€100 buy-in Main Event.

When the inaugural UKIPT Marbella Main Event took place in June 2013 it marked the first time the tour had ventured outside of the UK & Ireland. It turned out to be a great decision by the UKIPT management team not least because the Main Event attracted 763 players. Those hopefuls were all outlasted by Scottish grinder Ludovic Geilich who walked away with the title of champion, the trophy and €130,000 after a three-way deal.

Since that day, Geilich has gone on to become one of the UK's most respected live tournament players and a regular on the European Poker Tour and World Series of Poker.

Twelve months later, 720 players turned out for the second instalment of the UKIPT Marbella Main Event. UK duo Sam Grafton and the Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody reached the final table – finishing in ninth and eighth place – while Spain’s Rodrigo Espinosa claimed the victory, defeating Christian Bauer heads-up to scoop a cool €136,000.

You may recall that Cody actually flew all the way from Las Vegas to Marbella to compete in the event, such is the draw of the UKIPT.
