With the 2015 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in full swing out in Las Vegas, Nevada, it is easy to forget that the online poker world is still jam-packed full of action, particularly on Sundays when all the biggest multi-table tournaments take place.
Some say that the Sunday Majors grow much softer during the WSOP thanks to thousands of online grinders leaving the comfort of their homes and heading to the desert in their quest to win a coveted WSOP bracelet.
Softer they may be, but they still take some winning. Just as Ireland’s popular grinder Daragh “Daragh999” Davey who didn’t have an easy time on his way to outlasting 1,316 opponents in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up.
Davey eventually ran out as the overall winner after chopping heads-up with former world number one Chris “ImDaNuts” Oliver, a result that bagged Davey $20,758.61.
Joining Davey in the winner’s circle was the United Kingdom’s “vander9279” who walked away with the title of Sunday 2nd Chance champion, an accolade that came with a $41,400 cash prize. Vander9279 defeated Rhys “floppinhel” Jones ($29,509.00) heads-up for the title while fellow Brits “10111420” (fifth for $11,500.00) and “Hollisio” (ninth for $2,760.00) also reached the final table.
Other players boosting their PokerStars accounts include “DANMERRRRRRR” who finished ninth in the Sunday 500 for $4,537.60, Ben “cheezees” Martin who finished fourth in The Bigger $162 for a $14,473.80 score, Ben “jenbizzle” Jones who collected the $6,250.00 fifth place prize in the Sunday 6-Max and finally “babi1390” who finished in fourth place in the Sunday Supersonic for $17,743.56.
Over at Full Tilt, “d7o1d1s0” won The Sunday brawl for $20,145.00 with Sheffield’s Rick “TheClaimer” Trigg finishing in fifth spot for $5,877.60.
Fresh from returning to the UK from Australia, Ashley “AshTheDonkey” Mason collected $2,116.00 for his sixth place in the Big Ben while “AldosSnow” finished with a $21,105.14 score for being the runner-up in The Sunday Major.
There was also a runner-up finish for “Denzil94,” this time in The T-Rex, a finish worth $5,255.04.
At 888, the $20,000 Sunday Crocdile smashed its guarantee by more than $40,000 with the main beneficiary being Marc “icallyamet” Wright who took it down for $12,201.19 and in the $100,000 Sunday Challenge, “snootyflue" walked away with $5,333.54 after finishing in fifth place.
Lastly, a shoutout to “MessiRonaldo” who fell at the final hurdle of the $100,000 Mega Deep and collected a cool $18,549.00.
